Viruses and Kidneys: I have spent a great deal of time researching your question. Hepatitis, hiv, hanta, ebstein-barr, west nile, b-k, and herpes varicella zoster viruses can all affect the kidney. False positive: IgG tests are possible. There can be some cross-reactivity with other viral antibodies. The definitive diagnosis of specific viruses including HSV 1, 2 and HIV is a western blot test.
