Thyroprotein/tsh level- what number is indicative of hypothyroidism? My results says 3 and normal range is 2-8. Is there another test to determine thyroid issues related to CHF? Also, is H.pylori count of 2 means positive for it? On protonixThanks.
ThryoTROPIN: is a synonym for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). This hormone, produced by the pituitary gland, regulates thyroid function. Normal results for adults, in most labs, are 0.4-4.2 mU/L. This is the well-recognized/accurate test for hypothyroidism; a total thyroxine can sometimes add information. An H. pylori antibody blood test only measures past infection. Biopsy, stool antigen, breath test better ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
TSH: Depending on your symptoms, other thyroid labs, and whether you're being treated for a thyroid problem, normal TSH range is 0.4 - 4.0 miu/l (milli-international units per liter). If being treated the range is usually tighter, between 0.5 and 2.0 miu/l. Treatment decisions need more data than TSH alone, though. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hypothyroidism.: That TSH value denotes a slight degree of hypothyroidism - a slowing of your thyroid function. At the least, you deserve a follow-up blood test with a full thyroid panel. Sometimes if you're not feeling well on the day the TSH is drawn, it could be a little off. But then it would self-correct. I'd advise a full thyroid blood testing panel as the next step. ...Read more

If my TSH level is within the 'normal' range does it mean I don't have a thyroid problem? I've seen people who disagree with this
The reference range: The "reference range" for a lab result is sometimes called the "normal range," and thus confuses people into thinking that a person is normal if his lab value is within that range. Not quite what it means! Some normal people have results outside the reference range. Some abnormal people have results inside the reference range. Numbers are just numbers, thus the doctor looks at the whole picture. ...Read more
If I have a TSH level of 2.59 but a T4 level of 0.96 is that still normal? My doctor said I'm within all normal ranges. My FT3 is 4.2
Thyroid Tests: The T4 is in teh low normal range. However the TSH and T3 (liothyronine) seem to be fine. I usually look for antibodies to the thyroid and also symptoms to interpret thyroid normalcy. Classic medicine is only about TSH and T4. So if you have symptoms more may need to be done. ...Read more
What should be my TSH level range with a total thyroidectomy for a goiter and pre cancerous cells? Thank you.
Precancerous?: Hi. Please give us the exact surgical pathology report wording. They don't read those as "precancerous". If it is not cancer, the TSH goal is to be normal. If it were cancer, your endocrinologist would have arranged for radioactive iodine therapy followed by some degree of TSH suppression (that goal is a moving target at this time). Good luck. ...Read more
