Had endoscopy last week, found thickening of lower gullet, and taken biopsy. What will the results show?

No crystal ball, but: ...I understand your concern. Like many things in medicine, a single physical finding taken out of context can suggest nonspecifically a variety of phenomenon. Gastric thickening or nodularity may indicate hyperplasia, inflammation, an inflltrative process (like lymphoma), more. Rather than worry needlessly, please wait to hear your biopsy results, then treat objectively. ...Read more

Can a endoscopy show if you're lactose intolerance?

Can a endoscopy show if you're lactose intolerance?

Likely not: Your gut membrane does not change when you have lactose intolerance so it's unlikely that endoscopy can make a diagnosis. In lactose intolerance person, taking lactose is like taking a laxative. The difference is latose is a natural sugar and can be digested by your gut bacteria. That's how bloating and flatulence occur when affected person drinks milk. ...Read more

Hiya. Will endoscopy see gastritis? And will it show right when the endoscopy is done or have to wait for biopsy results? Thanks.

Hiya. Will endoscopy see gastritis? And will it show right when the endoscopy is done or have to wait for biopsy results? Thanks.

Both: Some types of gastritis may be obvious on endoscopic examination. Depending on the type and severity of the lesion, you may need to wait for the biopsy for the definitive diagnosis. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form.
Practice safe sex. ...Read more

I recently had h plyori and getting endoscopy in few weeks. Is nexium usually stopped before scopes? Will hplyori show up if nexium is taken?

No need to stop: Unless requested by your doctor, it is not necessary to stop the Nexiam. Nexiam can make it more difficult for the pathologist to find H. pylori on the biopsies. ...Read more

What could I take to relieve globus sensation? I did a endoscopy Month ago didn't show anything. I can't take it anymore feel like lump stuck

What could I take to relieve globus sensation? I did a endoscopy Month ago didn't show anything. I can't take it anymore feel like lump stuck

This must be: FRUSTRATING. Many experts believe globus is the result of incoordination of the swallowing muscles. Many muscles are involved with swallowing; they must tense and relax in the correct sequence for swallowing to occur normally. Stomach acid from reflux may aggravate, as can stress, fatigue, post-nasal drainage. Treat underlying aggravant/stress/anxiety; speech therapists can do physiotherapy. ...Read more

Yes it should be: Gastritis is curable, commpletely curable provided you remove the cause. It is often caused by excessive use of pain medicines (NSAIDS) like Motrin or Naprosyn/Aleve. Antacids can prevent and treat this problem. Are you taking an antacid now???? ...Read more

Do you know are endoscopys, colonoscopys, cat scans, ultra sounds the only test to show if you have anything wrong?

No: Why do you think something is wrong? The first clues are your symptoms. Before ordering tests, a doctor should talk to you about symptoms and do a good physical exam. The tests you mention are all different ways of imaging the body. There are many other tests out there, but nothing as good as a doctor who takes time to listen and think before ordering a bunch of tests! ...Read more

Would gastroparesis show up on an endoscopy? Or do you need to do a stomach emptying test

Would gastroparesis show up on an endoscopy? Or do you need to do a stomach emptying test

Would not show up: Gastroparesis is a slow emptying of the stomach. It is a problem with the function of the stomach, not with how it looks. Since it still will probably look normal, the doctor who does the endoscopy is not going to be able to diagnose gastroparesis that way. You need an emptying study. ...Read more

One weak before my upper endoscopy test was done and result shows Lax Les, nodular duodenitis. What does it mean? Is it serious?

Waiting for Biopsy?: Nodular duodenitis is an atypical finding that is likely associated with peptic ulcer disease. They are usually found to be normal tissue, but you may get more information once the pathologist has reviewed the biopsy sample. LES laxity means your lower esophageal sphincter is "saggy" and is associated with reflux disease. Not to be concerned but likely more info coming with the nodule biopsy. ...Read more

I have a question about Prilosec and a upper endoscopy. If I take Prilosec and it stops my acid reflux, would I need to have a upper endoscopy since it might show no acid reflux damage. Other tests?

Good question: If your reflux has been long standing and you also have abdominal pain an endoscopy study is warranted to rule out tissue changes in your lower esophagus and to be sure you are not dealing with a cancer problem. Prilosec (omperazole) is a very good medication but it may also be covering up more than reflux discomfort. ...Read more

If you have: No symptoms your both conditions could be observed. GB polyps has malignant potential but usually they are 2 cm or more in size. I did endoscopy, it shows grade 2 esophagitis, and mucosa inflamed distally. I taking omeprazole, then next when I take endoscopy again, ?

See a GI doc: This is a very specific question, and if you were prescribed Omeprazole for the esophagitis, the prescribing physician should have told you when to retest. In general, it takes several weeks of good anti-acid medication therapy to heal the inflammation, but ask your GI doctor for a more accurate response. I would wait at least 2-3 months ...Read more

What is the difference between NERD & GERD? If my endoscopy shows normal but I have dysphagia corrected by Nexium (esomeprazole), (esomeprazole) is this NERD? . Only Nexium (esomeprazole) works.

NERD: ... Is an endoscopic term meaning that no erosions were seen in the esophagus by endoscopy. It does not mean that you do not have gastroesophageal reflux disease. If Nexium (esomeprazole) helps, I would continue that medicine, as recommended by your gastroenterologist. You should also continue antireflux measures, in addition. Good luck. ...Read more
