My baby seems to have lost a bit other voice due to her cold... Is this normal? Is this a bad sign? What should I do?
Hoarseness with a: Cold is pretty common. It means her vocal cords are irritated. The best treatments are good hydration, saline nose drops, & suctioning her nose with a bulb syringe. Use a humidifier if your pediatrician okays it. If she has a recital temperature of 100.4 or above, isn't nursing/drinking well or her symptoms worsen, take her to her doctor. Otc cough/cold syrups are not useful & may be harmful. ...Read more

Is it normal for toddlers to be afraid of water? Also what can I so for my toddler if he wets the bed a a lot?
Typically-developing: toddlers can have fears. If he's scared of hot or rushing water or water on his face, run his bath before he gets in the tub. Get 2 small watering cans, one for him & one to rinse his hair with. Fill it from the sink. Put a bath cloth over his eyes. Get tub crayons, paints & toys only for bath or pool. Bedwetting is normal till age 5, if he's never been dry for 6 mos. Pull-ups are ok at night. ...Read more
Y my newborn baby can't sleep at nights? Can this be bc of reflux? What can i do?She coughs sometimes and today she vomited is it a cause of concern?
Could be: Babies in the first few weeks should sleep a lot (20 hours per day) so if your newborn is not sleeping then yes, I would be concerned. If your baby is under a week old it is a little early for reflux unless the baby is overfeeding. Cough can be a sign of reflux but generally I think cough in a newborn should be evaluated by a doctor sooner than later. So my advice is to see your doctor soon ...Read more

The variation in sleeping hours is quite a lot - anywhere from 18-22 hours! Hard to know: What is different about your room? Is there a different temperature, noise level, anything uncomfortable for him? Does he spend time there when he is already tired and fussy? Does he fall sleep in his own crib? See if you can find any common feature. Talk with your doctor if not better. ...Read more
Our 3-week old seems to be spitting up a lot after each breast-feeding ... No fever, but we're wondering what nourishment, if any, he's getting?
Gaining weight?: Many babies spit up some of their feedings. This may be due to overfeeding or just him gulping down air along with the milk. Burping frequently can help the latter. The most important thing is whether he is growing. Doctors use charts to plot babies' growth. If his weight and length are going along the curve, he's doing ok. http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/who/grchrt_boys_24lw_9210.pdf. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Mgt: There may be an issue with her coordination in swallowing the formula. In addition, reflux may contribute to this problem. Smaller volume feedings at an angle of at least 30 degrees, may help. Preschooler recently started crying a lot at%a0school, she was out for a week due to laryngitis, could that have something to do with the crying? Help
Hard to tell: Young children can be very emotional from all sorts of things. They don't always handle change easily. Talk with her about her activities at preschool- what does she like to do? Are there any things she doesn't like? Be calm and encourage her to go to school and have fun. If it persists, talk with her teacher and see if there is anything else going on (new change in sched., new students, etc). ...Read more

Reflux: Babies must breathe through their nose. If i had to bet the baby is having silent acid reflux that is burning her nose. Using 1-2 drops of nonmedicated nasal saline drops for babies after each feeding can help. Are you breastfeeding? Try going on a dairy free diet yourself. On formula? Ask your doctor about switching to soy or elemental formula. For any infant breathing issues call your md. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
