What Makes The Ca 125 Test Results To Go Up
I just received my blood test results which showed a ca-125 reading of 35. The blood test results showed hyper chromic microcytic anaemia.
Benign: A Ca 125 of 35 was found to be a useful cutoff point, with 99% of healthy women having values less than 35. Levels above 35 units are certainly seen in healthy women, but beyond the cutoff point of 35, the higher the value, the more likely there is trouble. With ovarian cancer, the levels measure in hundreds. Depends on what you are looking for. Repeat the test. You probably need some iron tabs. ...Read more
Ca-125 (cancer antigen 125 or carbohydrate antigen 125) is a biomarker/tumor marker for ovarian cancer (etc); however, it is not sensitive or specific enough to use as a screening test. Also, a uk study showed that treating based on ca125 level did not improve outcomes. "125" comes from the 125th attempt to develop a marker. It was introduced by bast ...Read more
CA-125: This marker is elevated significantly at this value. It's greatest specificity for ovarian cancer is in post-menopausal women, but a variety of things that irritate the lining of the abdomen and even chest, can elevate it mildly. So things like appendicitis, endometriosis, and even diverticulosis can also result in high levels. But, getting checked out for what is behind this is a good idea. ...Read more
My ca 125 blood test result slightly elevated, with a different reading 3 times, what could cause this to happen?
CA 125: A ca 125 is not a very accurate test. Anything that affects the lining of your abdomen (peritoneum), lung cavity (pleura), or sac around your heart (pericardium) can change the ca 125 level. This includes everything from a cold to kidney failure to cancer. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hello! I have noticed for some months that my stomach was growing big. I did a test of ca 125 and got result of 751.7 u/ml. What sshould I do now?
Go to see MD: Go to see your md. You need to have some blood work and imaging ( ultrasound/ct scan) - to evaluate your liver especially and other organs. Your cancer markers can go up in the setting of liver problems. Liver disease can be caused by infections like hepatitis, parasites, alcohol, tumor etc. Go to see your md and get yourself checked. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I am single. Got test of ca 125 with a result of 35.28 and got test of rubella IgG with 18.20 reactive. Is it cancer?
Why tested for CA125: Ca 125 is a controversial test..So it is not advised unless there is some other evidence of ovarian cancer. Your results(for whatever reason it was checked?) are still in the normal range but may provoke some anxiety now that someone made the mistake to do it in the first place. I have no idea why rubella was tested and what it means in your case.An ultrasound of the ovaries may be your best guid. ...Read more
Is CA-125 100% accurate? I had yearly blood work done and my result are 40 U/ml. Could i have cancer? I was on my menstrual cycle when test was done.
10 weeks pregnant. Iam having ovarian cysts of size 5cm. Doc did ca-125 test result 53.60u/ml.Vdrl serum non reactive. What does this means?
Not much: Ca-125 is normally high during pregnancy. Yours sounds like it's just slightly over the normal range. The lab that ran the test, should have an established normal range for each trimester of pregnancy. Vdrl is a test for syphilis. It can sometimes be falsely positive with certain medical conditions. I'm glad yours is negative. Management of the cyst depends most on what it looks like on imaging. ...Read more
CA-125: Cancer antigen 125 (ca-125) is a protein found on the surface of many ovarian cancer cells. It also can be found in other cancers and in small amounts in normal tissue. A ca-125 test measures the amount of this protein in the blood and can be used as a tumor marker. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Screening? No: Ca 125 is not a screening test. It can be elevated for reasons other than cancer. It should be used for follow up of certain cancers ie ovarian cancer. Even then, it is done periodically as part of surveillance strategy. Also used to help the clinician decide if a patient who is on chemotherapy is responding or not & some oncologists obtain them per 'cycle' of chemotherapy i.e. Every 3-4 wks. ...Read more
