What Makes Chronic Ebv Keep Reactivating
I was just diagnosed with chronic active ebv. I've had severe symptoms for over 2years. Should I be concerned?
Chronic active EBV infection is a rare and serious condition. Recent treatments include immunomodulators such as interferon gamma, and pre-clinical studies of bortezomib, and valproic acid are promising.
Reduced intensity hematopoetic stem cell transplantation with nondestructive pretreatment is curative.

The epstein–barr virus (ebv) is a virus in the herpesvirus family and is one of the most common viruses in humans. Ebv is best known as the cause of infectious mononucleosis, and infection with ebv occurs by the oral transfer of saliva and/or genital secretions, hence the moniker "the kissing disease". In the us, about 90 to 95 percent of all adults have ...Read more
Why would I have accute mono/ebv currently when I've had it before in the past? Why would it re-activate?
May recur: Generally, people will only contract mononucleosis once. Once infected, the patient carries the dormant virus in b lymphocytes for the rest of life. Immune system normally keeps the virus under control. However, under certain circumstances when the immune system is under stress, the virus may become reactive and cause vague symptoms of general illness and person becomes contagious. ...Read more

How long after someone has EBV are they contagious through kissing? How about for people with "chronic mono" (regardless of how real that is)?
Epstein Barr virus: EBV probably is transmissible by saliva for only a few weeks after recovering from mononucleosis. "Chronic mono" is usually not actually mononucleosis and not caused by EBV (as your "regardless" comments suggests you already know), and therefore is not transmissible. ...Read more
What are the infectious causes that may cause chronic elevated ALT 100. After ruling out. Hiv. Cmv. Ebv. Hep a.B.C and no sexual activity in 23 y o male?
Next step...: I'm glad the hepatitis family has been ruled and trust hepatitis e, which very rarely goes chronic, is not a consideration. Please be sure that hemochromatosis, autoimmune hepatitis, antitrypsin deficiency, and wilson's have also been ruled out. If they are, you may be one of those folks who gets a "non-alcoholic steatohepatitis" diagnosis -- an invitation to better health through aerobic fitness. ...Read more
How to know If I have chronic Epstain Barr? On October8.2015 My EBV IgG was 137.06U/ml, IgM <4. On May 14.2015 it was IgM At 4 U/ml, IgG 148.7.Explain?
Immune memory: IgG antibodies persist over time. The are the "memory" arm of the immune system and facilitate removal of the virus and targeted immune response upon re-exposure or re-activation. The IgM levels are both low and not helpful in determining when an infection may have occurred. So, at some point you have been exposed to the virus (like most people). More info needed to discuss disease scenarios ...Read more

What medication and supplements should chronic fatigue syndrome caused by EBV and hhv-6 be treated with?
Can chronic EBV cause enlarged tonsil? . Ever since I had strep my one tonsil has been larger. It goes down then when I get sick goes up. Ent says ok.
EBV is a known commensal in the oropharynx and can be associated with tonsillar hypertrophy. Generally, tonsil size being larger during infections and then subsiding is quite normal.
However, if there is a persistent asymmetrical enlargement of the tonsil, i.e. one tonsil being larger than the other, then in that situation further examination and removal may be indicated. ...Read more
I had an EBV blood test done to diagnose chronic fatigue syndrome, it can back positive at >8.0. Does that mean I am contagious? Really worried
Drs can't figure this out- have high liver levels, chronic ebv, gastritis, headaches, fatigue, 2 weeks severe pain upper right abd under ribs. Help?
Right enlarged tonsil since young. Chronic ebv, allergies and acid reflux. No pain. Causes? Been seen by ENT before and quite a few drs over the years
Tonsil enlarged: If an ENT doctor who can examine you does not know the cause it would be very imprudent to try and make a diagnosis without being able to view your medical records and see you. Find another ENT for a second opinion. Good luck. ...Read more

Does anyone know what type of MD I need to see to help with Chronic Fatigue EBV -Barley able to get out of bed- chronic Migraines, back pain, stress?
Chronic Fatigue: I would recommend that you see an alternative doctor who specializes in anti-aging and naturopathic medicine. They would need to look at your nutrition, your blood tests, look to see if you have inflammation, nutritional deficiencies. Someone who belongs to the Academy of Anti-aging should be able to help you. ...Read more
Epstein Barr virus +: A person has been exposed to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). This is the cause of infectious mononucleosis (Mono) and is associated with certain cancers. A POSITIVE blood test (antibody test) only means exposure to the virus but not necessarily active disease. Seroepidemiologic survey indicates that over 95% of adults worldwide are infected with EBV. Transplant registry for instance will prove this ...Read more
If EBV caused a massive reaction for the body to attack its own nerve cells, what diseases are we looking at?
NOT USUALLY MASSIVE: Not sure what you are looking for, but here's my take on ebv. There is a strong relationship to adult ms (99% have had some infection in past, but 95% of normals also). Of course, it can cause infectious mono, and maybe chronic fatigue. Not clear whether in some cases related to cancers, lymphomas (burkitt's), hematological disorders, and rarely acute neurological events (gbs?)-not proven. ...Read more
