On remicade, (infliximab) lab tests show low pneumonia, diphtheria, and tetanus antibodies? Should I do anything or be concerned?

On remicade, (infliximab) lab tests show low pneumonia, diphtheria, and tetanus antibodies? Should I do anything or be concerned?

Observation: Remicade (infliximab) can have some immune suppressing properties and your physicians might have a lower threshold for treating infections. Let them know of any symptoms that might be due to infection so they can initiate antibiotic treatment appropriately. ...Read more

Last labs showed high iron saturation at 55%, normal total iron, and normal iron binding capacity. Low wbc. Should I be concerned about these? Currently on plaquenil, sulfasalazine, and Remicade (infliximab) infusions for Lupus/RA.

How low?: It depends on how low the WBC is and whether this has been a persistent finding. You will need to find out the cause for the low WBC which may be the result of a drug reaction or just part of the Lupus/RA. The major risk is increased susceptibility to infections when the WBC is very low. Talk to your rheumatologist. ...Read more

Methotrexate injections and pills didn't work for scleritis and was wondering if remicade (infliximab) is good medicine for the scletitis?

Methotrexate injections and pills didn't work for scleritis and was wondering if remicade (infliximab) is good medicine for the scletitis?

Resistant scleritis: Initial therapy always requires systemic nsaids, glucocorticoids, or other immunosuppressives (rituximab & cyclophosphamide). Cyclosporine & mycophenolate may also work. Azathioprine or mtx may be most beneficial for maintenance. Tnf Alpha inhibitors (eg infliximab) may be effective in resistant disease. Scleritis should ideally be managed by ophthalmologist+rheumatologist experts. ...Read more

How well did remicade (infliximab) work for your patients?

How well did remicade (infliximab) work for your patients?

Equal to other a-TNF: Overall, all a-tnf drugs are equal, but for some patients, one may work better than another, and for some conditions, such as uveitis, Remicade (infliximab) may work better, Remicade (infliximab) helps about 75% of patients, and has the advantage of being able to vary the dose, if a higher dose or more frequent dose is needed. Higher doses do have a higher infection risk. ...Read more

I'm in over 11 different medication including remicade (infliximab) and I'm trying everything to lose weight and nothing works. Can be the medication??

Usual medical food: Advice (LFHC) drives fat storage, not loss: Study: all links in my answer: https://www.healthtap.com/#user_questions/6795867, go LCHF, weigh daily, 1st thing after arising & toilet, nothing on, with scale resolving to 0.1 lb & record daily. Immediately after weight. Mentally review what & how much was eaten the previous day; you are seeing the result, day by day, to learn what works vs. does not. ...Read more

I am a patient of ankylosing spondlitis. I took remicade injection (infliximab). Anything else?

Yes: Humira, enbrel, simponi (golimumab) have all been approved for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis. It is very common for a patient to fail one medication and do well on another. However, I would give any medication a minimum three-month trial before declaring it a failure. ...Read more

If a child on methotrexate and remicade (infliximab) gets an abcescss/MRSA do they need to be admitted or in some cases will oral antibiotics work?

Depends. : Depends on the examining doctor who is taking care of his medications. As u may have been explained Remicade (infliximab) may allow infections to become life threatening. If IV antibiotics are contemplated they can be administered at home with an indwelling peripheral vein catheter and nurse home visits. Sometimes just drainage of abscess is all that may be required. Close follow up is key. ...Read more

Type 1 blood sugar, how high does it go, before I can't get my remicade (infliximab) injection? Patient has been drinking a lot of water, eat small beef stick to bring it down, her suger level.

If : If you have type 1 diabetes, why not take a dose of fast acting insulin? Humalog, apidra, (insulin glulisine) and NovoLog work within 15 minutes to start lowering the sugar. I do not know of any clear glucose level at which you could not get remicade. Makes little sense why there would be since glucose can vary with Insulin and over hours. Your rheumatologist may not be comfortable dosing your Remicade though if your sugar is high. Contrary to popular belief, drinking water will not lower your sugar. And beef sticks sure don't. ...Read more

Switch.: Remicade (infliximab) blocks the tnf-a receptor. Drugs like Humira an Enbrel are antibodies to tnf-a. I recommend switching to one of these (I favour humira), since they work differently. Humira is the only one of the 3 that is fully human. ...Read more

I'm starting remicade (infliximab) infusions for psoriasis, how will I feel after it?

Fine: A very high percentage of patients I treat with Remicade do fine during the infusions and after. If we do get complaints from patients the day after a Remicade infusion they include headache usually controlled with tylenol (acetaminophen), (acetaminophen) fatigue which may last a day or two. Rarely fever may occur again treated with tylenol (acetaminophen). Everyone is different so if something does not feel right, talk with the medical office. ...Read more

15 year old son with Crohn's on remicade (infliximab). Having black vision when he rises to stand.

Please see PCP: He may be dehydrated, which would cause "orthostatic hypotension" as previously described. However, if this does not go away with hydration, he may need to see an ophthalmologist, as there are eye conditions associated with crohn's disease. Finally, while rare, crohn's patients can develop clots in the brain. This typically causes headache but bottom line, he needs to be seen. ...Read more

Which one is better — colectomy or remicade (infliximab) for left sided colitis? Advice from 2 different gis.

Hard to say: It all depends. Surgery is usually reserved for medically refractory toxic disease or dysplasia/surgery. Colectomy is curative but having an ipaa also presents problems. ...Read more

How do I prepare my child for her first remicade (infliximab) apt? She is 7 with JRA? What should I tell her?

Remicade (infliximab): Remicade (infliximab) is given by IV infusion over a period of two hours. The doctor or nurse will give you something to make the needle prick hurt less. You will not feel much after the IV is running, and when over there is a mild discomfort removing the needle. Stress that after several primary injections, you may have to receive it every two months, but other types are weekly, but not IV injections. ...Read more

How come I get so tired and week after my remicade (infliximab) infusion? I also feel kinda sick. What is my body doing to cause this?

Your body is working: This is entirely normal after a Remicade (infliximab) infusion. The Remicade (infliximab) is an antibody and it's job is to go around and help destroy things in your body you don't want there. It's similar to what your body does when you have a virus and how that makes you feel sick as well — it means your immune system is working! ...Read more
