What kind of tape should I use to support my knee and back?

What kind of tape should I use to support my knee and back?

Knee & back taping: Physiotherapists and patients use many different types of tapes and bandages. Adhesive, non-stretch (rigid) sports tape is generally the most appropriate to restrict undesired knee mobility or improve spine posture. (for knee or spine strapping 38mm is usually the most appropriate size). This should always be used in combination with hypoallergenic tape as an underlay, such as fixomull. ...Read more

I have had back of knee pain for a few weeks, sore when straightening from acute angle and hurts most if a twist happens. Should I use a support?

Investigate why?: Sounds like it could be a Bakers cyst! These are knee fluid collection in a cyst behind the knee, likely as a result of trauma, wear and tear,i.e. A torn meniscus?, should get an MRI to better understand why this is occurring!A support may make it worse! Need to find out what causes the fluid buildup up! May need to aspirated knee, please see a rheumatologist or Ortho, Best! ...Read more

Is a brace necessary for sports after ACL surgery? I am an athlete and am having ACL replacement surgery so that i can continue to be active. Will i need to use a brace to support my knee for the rest of my life when playing sports?

Is a brace necessary for sports after ACL surgery? I am an athlete and am having ACL replacement surgery so that i can continue to be active. Will i need to use a brace to support my knee for the rest of my life when playing sports?

Hello: Strictly : Hello: strictly speaking you do not need to wear a brace after acl surgery. Some patients like the supportive feel of an acl brace during rehab. In some instances and some sports, a brace may help protect against collision-related reinjuries. I do believe there is no strongly overwhelming evidence to mandate a brace or to avoid a brace, so i discuss the above with the patient and help them decide. I generally advise those who get a brace to use it for the first year back to sports, unless they do some higher-collision-risk sports infrequently (for example, skiing), then i would have no problem with their wearing the brace a couple times a year for those occasions for several years. I would have problems with patients who feel they "must" have a brace: then i would want to rule out residual instability, and if that is ruled out, work with those patients to make sure they are confident on their feet. After all, the acl reconstruction should provide stability! i hope this helps! sincerely, jim hsu, md seattle, wa. ...Read more

While : While a more thorough evaluation by a physician (like an orthopaedic surgeon or someone trained in sports medicine) would be more likely to give you a firm diagnosis, the history and symptoms you provide may be consistent with a tear of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle. Can you detect any visible difference in the appearance of the muscles from affected to non-affected sides? Are there any other symptoms, perhaps related to your knee, that go along with this? If it continues to bother you, consdier getting checked out by someone who can give you a complete evaluation. Good luck! ...Read more

Total knee replacement - what kind of criteria do people use to decide when to do replacement?

Total knee replacement - what kind of criteria do people use to decide when to do replacement?

Pain/disability: When to have a knee replacement has to be an individualized decision. The patient's age, health, ability to undergo a lengthy surgery, degree of pain along with the amount of disability and loss of function are all major factors that have to be considered. The severity of arthritis on a x-ray should not be the primary factor, as many with severe x-ray changes have little pain and good function. ...Read more

Is methylcobalamin treat ACL injury of knee ? What precaution or medication should use for this kind of injury ?

Does not treat acl : Mehylcobalamin is a form of vitamin b12. It is used to tray vitamin B12 deficiency, as well as peripheral neuropathies. I see no data on its use in acl injuries or prevention of such. Leg strengthening especially the quads and hamstrings can help prevent t and get ready for surgery to repair acl tears. ...Read more

What kind of medicine or crime will I use when sprain knee? How many day will it better ?Can i play football again if it is better?

Rest: Avoid anti-inflamatories like Motrin or aleve if there is a sprain (with instability). Wrap the knee, ice and elevate periodically. Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain should be sufficient for the pain. Any linament (greasy and warming) can stimulate blood flow for healing. See a sports doctor if the fluid and pain persist for 1 week. You will play again when healed and strong. ...Read more

I had knee surgery on both knees back in 2004 from a car accident, i haven't completely healed from it, what can I do do I need to take out the pins for better use of my legs?

Orthopedics: I'm sure your situation is far too complex for a simple answer. Get a couple of opinions from different orthopedic docs. It depends what you mean by "healed". If you still have chronic open wounds that is almost certainly a chronic infection. If you mean you aren't back to pre-crash function then you may be as good as it is going to get. ...Read more
