Doctor, are there any other way to remove keloid other than using injection or surgery?

Horrible disease: Keloids are terrible tumors which tend to spill out over the edges of the wound. They are usually found in blacks but are also seen in other ethnic people. Removing them can cause them to return and worsen. There are some techniques which may work, but the success rate is low. Surgery and injections are the only 2 methods that I am aware of. Most injections don't work but don't make things worse. ...Read more

Best treatment for keloid type of scar. I had a surgery to remove my left damaged submandibular gland about 3 weeks ago.?

Best treatment for keloid type of scar. I had a surgery to remove my left damaged submandibular gland about 3 weeks ago.?

Not keloid: If your surgery was only 3 weeks ago, then you probably do not have a keloid. Scars are thickest by 6 weeks and will not soften until after that point. That is why we encourage people not to do scar revisions for a while. Use massage and soften the scar, protect from sun and it will probably look much better in a few weeks. ...Read more

Is it safe to remove a keloid with a rubber band?

Is it safe to remove a keloid with a rubber band?

Not the way I would: Keloids are an overgrowth of scar tissue. If a rubber band could be placed around a keloid to cut off its blood supply the keloid would have to turn black and fall off. This would leave a place for a new scar and potential new keloid to return. I treat most keloids with excision, steroids, pressure, topical silicone and sometimes short course of radiation if it has recurred. ...Read more
