Which type of doctor performs a stomach hernia surgery?

General Surgeon: One of the most common operations performed by general surgeons are hernia repairs. There are many different techniques based upon the type of hernia, the training and experience of the surgeon, and the unique features of each patient: these are not "one size fits all" operations. Happily, most hernia operations are low-risk, out-patient procedures. ...Read more

Hernia Surgery (Definition)

There are a variety or several types of hernias, and many are repaired differently. A hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall (such as inguinal, umbilical, incisional) or diaphragm (hiatal hernia). Surgery to repair the hernia can involve use of sutures, and possible use of mesh. Open or laparoscopic surgery can be a means to repair hernias, with laparoscopic ...Read more

Hello.: Hello. I certainly hope that your bleeding has stopped. It has been some time since your surgery. Do they plan to get another ct scan to see if blood has resorbed or if there is still bleeding? Often surgeons work in treatment teams, where they can ask for input from colleages. If your surgeon isn't sure how he or she plans to proceed, ask if obtaining a second opinion would be helpful. ...Read more

Burning sensation in the incision area where right inguinal hernia surgery was done 9 months ago. I checked with the doc. He said nothing wrong. Help?

Ihad umbilical hernia surgery last year. A few months ago swelling has appeared above navel. Doc said it was lack of muscle tone. Still concefned?

Need Hernia Check: It sounds like your doctor is describing diastasis rectii, a common condition where the normally-fused rectus ("6-pack") muscles separate; this may look like a hernia but is cosmetic only. Alternatively, you may have developed a recurrent hernia. I suggest you return to see your hernia surgeon or seek out a second opinion--this is easily resolved by a careful hernia exam. Good luck! ...Read more

I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010, I feel pain only when I ejaculate. A doc told me its due to scar tissues. Can steroid injections remove them?

Was mesh used?: Pain could be due to scarring alone or result of mesh being used from nerve or spermatic cord entrapment. Steroid injection is unlikely to harm so worth trying, you have very little to lose with large potential gain./ Alternatives are do nothing & live with it or surgical exploration to free nerve &/or spermatic cord. I had a left inguinal hernia surgery in 2010. I feel pain when I ejaculate a doctor told me that it might be a scar tissue. Do I need a re-operation?

See answer: If have not done, would recommend see a urologist and get their opinion on cause of your ejaculation pain as scar tissue would be an uncommon cause of ejaculation-only related pain post-hernia repair. Most nerve entrapments accompanied by pain (s) unassociated with ejaculation. If you're correct, would reserve repeat surgery as a last resort. Most such pains improve with time. Nerve block an option. ...Read more

I had hernia surgery about 3 weeks ago. I've had surface numbness directly beneath the incision. Now I am feeling sever pain from inside that area. My doctor isn't certain what it is. Can this be nerve related? Will the mesh need to be removed?

Check these with doc: Numbness after inguinal hernia repair is not uncommon, but usually self-limiting over time. As the increasing pain in the incision, one has to check if there is a superimposed infection. Regarding possible mesh removal, it will be the last resort for handling infection if any. So, overall, check these with doc. To get all done correctly, to articles in http://www. Formefirst. Com/onDealSickness. Html ...Read more

If my abdomen and lower parts go numb after a hernia surgery, is that normal? I went in for a double hernia that was caused by lifting to much weight. The belly button and left lower areas were effected. The doctor said the cut would be small and it would

Some numbness common: It depends on what type of hernia repair you had done. It's not uncommon to have numbness around the incisions after surgery. If you had a laparoscopic hernia repair, that should be minimal. Open hernia repairs are associated with some incidence of numbness on the inside of the thigh and scrotum. Sometimes it gets better over time. ...Read more

Had hernia surgery doctor rupture my bowels now feces coming through my navel now I have a abscess and hole in instestiintestinal is this normal?

Intestinal Fistula: Sorry to hear about your misfortune. What you are describing is called a fistula which is basically a connection from your intestine to the skin (in this case your belly button). Although this is definitely not normal, it is a complication that is seen with intestinal surgeries. You should be closely followed by your surgeon as your condition can quickly worsen if not monitored closely. ...Read more

Doctor said bilateral peripheral edema is caused by my obesity? Should I get another opinion? Recently had umbilical hernia surgery haven't been active.

Obesity-->edema.: Because of the increase in intra-abdominal pressure due to obesity, venous return of blood from the legs to the heart is impaired, leading to fluid accumulation in the legs. Granted other things could cause this edema, but obesity is one possible cause. Losing weight will obviously help. ...Read more

I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010. I feel pain at incision after ejaculating. A doctor told me to take steroid injections. How much injections?

Good luck!: The steroid injection would be by the physician so you don't need to know the dose.
The thought is that this is due to an abdominal scar being yanked on and producing pain. Steroids would help remodel scar. This is not an FDA approved indication and is more hopeful than guaranteed.
Alternatively, scar remodeling occurs with physical therapy/stretching/exercise and getting that area more flexible. ...Read more

I recently had a laparoscopic left inguinal hernia surgery 8 days ago. The left testicle is super sensitive and painful when I walk or sit. What do I do? I will see the doctor again in 6 days.

Hernia: This can happen. Sometimes large or difficult hernia repairs result in swelling and pain that usually eventually resolves. Pain inside scrotum persists even after hernia repair and after orchiectomy, in a 61 year-old.....?

Questionable treatment, unless indirect inguinal hernia shown first.: Testicular &/or scrotal pain can notoriously be difficult to manage and often does not respond to epididymectomy. Certainly removal of testicle should not have been performed unless testicle was very tender. Various regimes utilized by pain clinics should have been tried first & certainly should be tried now including possible acupuncture. There is also possibility of referred pain. Surgery often does not help with this kind of pain unless it is due to intermittent trusts torsion in which case fixation of testis, to prevent twisting of spermatic cord, takes care of problem. Wish I could be of more help. ...Read more

Can umbilical hernia surgery be preformed without sedation for sm. Hernia? What is point of sedation other than memory/anxiety. Medically necessa

Hernia: Theoretically. But I don't think there's a surgeon that would perform such a repair! It's too dangerous for the patient. Movement of any kind can cause injury of not only the skin and abdominal musculature, but also the intestinal contents! Anesthesia is crucially needed to maintain an open airway. 100% medically necessary in my opinion. ...Read more
