Team should be assembled chaired by both an Orthodontist and an Oral surgeon who communicate well with each other and who have a track record of treating Orthognathic cases. Team should also include ENT, neurologist, general physician, perhaps a periodontist, and a restorative dentist. One time event ?: If you did this one time only -- no chance of a problem. If it is a frequently recurring habit, then you might have a problem over time. Most likely you will not alter your facial bones as such, but rather your alveolar processes supporting your teeth resulting in tooth movement which will change your facial appearance. Black eye: May be musculoskeletal/nerve irrtation but would also repeat the facial films as sometimes when it is a non displaced new fracture, you do not see the actual fracture line , but after a month the density of healing bone is different then normal bone so you will see that there was a fracture .f/u with doc/urgent care ...Read more
