Couple: Of possibilities. If this is your regular pain involving multiple joints and not controlled by the dose that usually controls your flares you might need a higher dose of Prednisone along with a different agent- Plaquenil/ Methotrexate for example. If this time the pain is different or involving only a joint or other organs it may be due to a different condition and you will need to see your doc. ...Read more

Weight medications: The easy answer is "yes." however 1) the weight gain tendency caused (primarily) by Prednisone will continue, so consider finding an effective regimen for your RA and pain that doesn't cause weight gain. 2) Phentermine generally only works well for a short period of time. Most people who use it find that it wears off after several weeks or months. There may be better weight options besides phent. ...Read more

Sound like: you need to have a frank discussion with your Rheumatologist1 the treatment of RA has advanced greatly over the past decade.
