I was just diagnosed with HIV, and am currently not on any medication yet. Is a Cotton Gin a safe environment for my condition? Even on meds?

Probably OK, but...: ...I'm not familiar with "cotton gin" except the cotton harvesting machine. Is that what you mean? Or some sort of gin cocktail? Alcohol in moderation isn't likely to hurt, and I don't see any problem working in cotton harvesting. Post a new question with more details, and/or speak with the doctor or clinic where you'll be getting your HIV care. Good luck! ...Read more

Is it safe for me to clean my ears using cotton buds?

Is it safe for me to clean my ears using cotton buds?

No : Despite the fact that millions of people use cotton buds to clean their ears it is not safe if you go anywhere beyond the very outer ear. If you stick the bud in the outer portion of the ear or in the canal you run the risk of pushing wax in, causing damage to the skin and leading to all sorts of problems. I advise my patients to leave their ears alone. ...Read more

I gave my month old karo syrup for constipation and tried a cotton swab but he still hasn't went, what else could I do?

I gave my month old karo syrup for constipation and tried a cotton swab but he still hasn't went, what else could I do?

Constipation: First of all quit giving him Karo syrup as there is a risk of infant botulism with this. Secondly some babies may normally go this long without a BM. Some go everyday or multiple times a day. If he is acting well, eating and sleeping well, urinating well and his tummy is soft, then he is fine. If not go see his pediatrician for an exam and tips for dealing with this. ...Read more

Im worrying about my 7 year old boy alot, silly things like him having accidents, choking on things I feel like im trying to wrap him in cotton wool?

Concerned parent: You're being a loving, caring, concerned parent. [i'd use bubblewrap myself; then he can have fun popping the bubbles :-)] unless your concerns are preventing restful sleep or causing ulcers or panic attacks, i shouldn't worry. Being a good parent is full of worries such as those you described & more. Be concerned but not overly protective. See comment. ...Read more

I'm 33 years old, having frequent night sweats and itching, already applying daily bioderma atoderm pp baume and using 100% cotton bed sheets.

Night sweats: Night sweats are often an indication of breaking fever since sweating is your body's way of losing heat. This is often associated with tuberculosis or other chronic infections, but sometimes with non-infectious inflammations. Cannot easily explain your itching with this and only a face to face exam with a doctor will help to resolve this. Go and be seen. Good luck and hope this clears up soon. ...Read more

While i was working, something from a bed sheet (a fabric particle which is soft such as cotton) went in my eye, it hurts little. What should I do?

While i was working, something from a bed sheet (a fabric particle which is soft such as cotton) went in my eye, it hurts little. What should I do?

Flush eye: You may have gotten something in your eye or may have scratched it. If the vision seems fine, try flushing it out with eyedrops. Cotton would not do anything as it will hydrate and become very soft wihout impacting the surface of the eye. If the vision is down, the eye is reddening, or painful, or developing pus - then see your ophthalmologist. ...Read more
