Earliest: Due date is best determined by earliest data. For example early ultrasound (less than 12 weeks) consistent with last perod is very realiable at determining due date. I have aleays understood that as time goes on ultrasound measurements less realiable at detetmining due date. ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

What's the most accurate, the CRL or the FL,AC, HC ? Which one gives you the most accurate fetal age ? What are the errors?

What's the most accurate, the CRL or the FL,AC, HC ? Which one gives you the most accurate fetal age ? What are the errors?

All of the above.: I am not an Obstetrician, but as I understand it, no one measurement is "most accurate" for fetal age. That is why all are measured together - some sort of average of all the measurements is the best indicator of gestational age. Every baby is different, & due to genetics some babies will have larger heads for a given age, others will have long legs. So doctors follow growth of all parts over time ...Read more

Hi is the any mistake in ultrasound result for 11 days in the 6th week of pregnancy?

Hi is the any mistake in ultrasound result for 11 days in the 6th week of pregnancy?

Pregnancy dating: I assume by you mean a discrepancy in size? A first trimester ultrasound is considered "consistent" with dating by lmp if measurement is within 7 days of the gestational age by lmp. A 1st trimester ultrasound is a more accurate way to date a pregnancy in most cases because due date based on lmp assumes that you had a 28 day cycle and ovulated on day 14. Many woman do not have a 28 day cycle. ...Read more

Which type of scanning is most accurate in seeing fetus abnormalities in 20 weeks pregnancy.color,3d,4d or anything else.not sure of these.plz suggest?

It's the scanner: It is the skill of the scanner and their interpretations that make a difference and not the machine itself. Even a higher resolution scan for fetal abnormalities can show a problem, but the person interpreting the scan "misses it". ...Read more

How important is the date of the last menstrual period in relation to the actual ultrasound dating?

How important is the date of the last menstrual period in relation to the actual ultrasound dating?

Depends: For an early sono the lmp is less significant since early on, the sono dates are felt to be more accurate. If a patient shows up in the third trimester for her first sono the lmp dates are more important since they are usually a better guess of the actual fetal age. The sono is then used to try to estimate fetal size and growth on subsequent scans. ...Read more

What changes a due date? And why is the first trimester ultrasound more accurate than the second trimester ultrasound?

What changes a due date? And why is the first trimester ultrasound more accurate than the second trimester ultrasound?

Ultrasound dating.: First trimester ultrasound is by far the most accurate in determining the precise due date (+/- 3-7 days, depending on exactly when it is performed). Second trimester sonograms are less accurate but still helpful in pegging down the due date within +/-7-12 days. Third trimester scans are not very accurate in dating the pregnancy, as growth varies (+/- 14-21 days). Menstrual dating is not very good. ...Read more

Is a 8wks ultrasound accurate? It was suppose to be 10wks due date 7/13/15 but after U/S . it was 8 wks..and when did I conceive Due date?? 07/27/2015

Highly accurate: First trimester US based on CRL is accurate to +/- 2-3 days if done correctly. Your assumed 10 weeks/ EDD 7/13/15 is almost certainly incorrect. Conception is likely around November 3 2014, but this is just a calculated guess. Good wishes. ...Read more

Same date : A four day difference is mathematically speaking no difference. You are within the margin of error of a sono machine. A due date simply marks the gestational age if 40 weeks. In this case either date is appropriate. You and your doctor can choose which to go by. Ask your doctor why he or she chose one over the other. ...Read more

Later, a measurement called the 'Crown-Rump-Length' at 7 to 10 weeks of gestation is the accurate to ±3 days. After 10 weeks, the accuracy of the CRL falls slightly with a margin of error of ±5 days at 10 to 14 weeks. ...Read more

How is a due date derived from an ultrasound that measures fetal age?

US: Evidence suggests that, in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy, due dates generated by the first ultrasound may the most accurate tool for predicting your baby's birth by calculating out the 9 month gestation. But ultrasound due dates have a margin of error of roughly 1.2 weeks, so drs will usually keep the original due date (from your last menstrual period date) if the ultrasound due date is close. ...Read more

What does it mean if ultrasound, doesn't match lmp, in terms of conception date and due date?

Ultrasound dating: It depends on the timing of ultrasound. First trimester ultrasound is accurate within 5-7 days. 2nd trimester ultrasound has accuracy of +/_ 2 weeks. Lmp dating also assumes a 28 day cycle. There is no test that can date conception more accurately than a 1 week window. Due date is based on lmp unless us off by more than 1 week 1st trimester or 2 weeks in 2nd. ...Read more
