Baby measured 2 days smaller on anatomy scan @ 20 weeks. How can avoid intrauterine growth restriction? Diet is not too varied but i eat healthily.
Consult with OB-GYN: Not knowing more about you it's very important that you talk about this finding with your ob-gyn for the sake of your baby and your emotional state of mind. You only want the best for this baby and your want to do everything to insure a healthy child is born. ...Read more
Blood cultures done for swollen fingers/neck pain. 2 cultures drawn same site. Results " growth of coagulase negative staph" dr. Says contaminated? ?
Blood culture after surgery yielded moderate growth of staph aureus.(ap, tet, cam, stp, fortum =r)(gent, flox, ctz =s++)s=sensitivity +=degree r=resistance?
Depends: Routine blood cultures are usually read at 24 and 48 hours and then again at 7 days and 14 days depending upon the organisms that are growing. Newer "blood culture" results using a variety of methods including dna testing or radioactive metabolite detection can often be read much sooner- in hours. ...Read more
How fast can infection show up in a blood culture? (I was called back in about 12 hrs to come back in due to positive result)
Under 12h, obviously: Obviously it can show up in under 12 hours; they wouldn't have called you back if the test were not definitely positive. The fast result could suggest a particularly dangerous infection: virulent bacteria often are detected rapidly, and it also may mean large numbers of bacteria in the blood. This could be very serious; get back to the doctor IMMEDIATELY. Good luck! ...Read more
Hi doctor, my brother blood first report and final report got Negative result. my question is blood culture result should come positive or negative ?
No should on testing: There is no should. The results are either yes or no. When a patient us severely ill, or has sepsis, treatment often starts before culture results are known. It appears there is much more to your story and this app cannot answer anything specific about the situation you are facing. Your concerns should be addressed by the professional responsible for this care there at the hospital. ...Read more

CT result-Thorax extensive mediastinal lympopathy with central caseating ,TB lymphopathy to consider skin, blood culture negative it is TB disease?
Caseating granulomas: This sounds like tuberculosis, but may conceivably be systemic fungal infection like Histoplasmosis, rarely lymphoma or sarcoidosis. In India this is probably TB and either should be treated empirically or wait for the results of the biopsied lymph nodes. Sounds as if your doctor is very astute and would heed their advice. Best wishes. ...Read more
I understand it can take a few days for the results of blood cultures to be known Generally, is it any quicker to get the results of urine cultures?
What exactly is a CSF culture & what is its purpose? Is it difficult to perform and does it take longer than blood cultures for a result to come back?
Similar to blood: A CSF culture is when you take a sample of CSF (usually from a lumbar puncture which samples the CSF from the spinal canal in the lower back - so yes a bit more difficult to perform but still pretty routine) and culture it to see if there are bacteria (or sometimes viruses) growing in it, usually to look for meningitis. It takes the same amount of time as a blood culture (48 hours). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can you think of any reason why blood cultures would come back with negative results within 2 hours even though antibiotics not commenced until hours after the results have come back.
Unclear question: If the blood culture results were reported within 2 hours, then it could not have bee culture, as that takes at least 24 hours, longer depending on the type of organism and microbial load. It was probably some other test like CRP, not blood culture, that was reported within two hours of blood collection. It may help to talk to the pathologist in-charge of the laboratory. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If a patient has suspected sepsis and urgent blood cultures are attempted then, approximately, how quickly could it be established that the results are negative.
MF/placental factors: Maternal-fetal and placental etiologies can all cause fetal growth restriction. Severa fetal syndromes can lead to fgr (e.g. Down, patau, triploidy, edwards, noonan's, digeorge). Multifetal pregnancies are at increased risk for fgr; this can result in fetal demise, fetal brain injury, cerebral palsy or even normal outcomes in non-syndromic cases. Placental infarcts, hypertension, lupus: culprits. ...Read more
How do I know if adopted child has growth hormone deficiency, wrong birthdate, or growth restriction?
Have them evaluated: We approach them as an unknown, repeat the basic vaccines and evaluate their needs individually. A growth evaluation often starts with a proposed date of birth, charted height/weights when known & a wrist hand x-ray for bone age. Another study in 6m to a year can see if the bone maturity is progressing. If slow, a hormonal evaluation would be reasonable. If normal, its okay to just watch. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
