You will need at least a two week course of antibiotics IV if not longer, while at the same time a thorough evaluation for the primary source of the bacteremia (bacteria in blood), endocarditis and distal foci of metastatic infection. The fast result could suggest a particularly dangerous infection: virulent bacteria often are detected rapidly, and it also may mean large numbers of bacteria in the blood.
