What Is The Red And Blue That Shows Up On A Thyroid Ultrasound
Had a thyroid ultrasound for goitre and other swollen in the neck the result picture showed totally blue area surrounded by red dots what does it mean?
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
I had a fetal echocardiogram and the image on the screen showed a lot of yellow, red, blue. What does that mean?
Why is it that there were only red and blue dots on one of my kidneys and not the other in an ultrasound?
False color-chk: The red & blue dots r most likely the false color signals from the Doppler mode of the ultrasound (US) machine. Doppler US helps determine blood flow; however, it is very dependent on how the transducer ("wand") is held in relation to the body. More likely, Doppler was applied to 1 of ur kidneys, & not to the other b/c the tech or doc thought he/she saw something. Anything abnl shd b in the report ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Several things: A liver spot could be benign or malignant. See your physician about the official reading from the radiologist. ...Read more
Usually blood flow: Most u/s images are not done with the 'doppler' probe turned on and are a 'black and white' image. The doppler allows the detection of movements toward or away from the probe (like blood coming into the area in an atery, or leavbing in a vein) these areas are coded red and blue by the computer processing the signal. ...Read more
Doppler signals: You are referring to color doppler. The red signals are coming from blood moving towards the ultrasound machine probe and the blue is flowing away from the probe. This can help the radiologist determine if the direction of flow is normal. Another form of doppler can tell how fast the blood is moving. ...Read more
I notice on my ultrasound scan at the top, it say "ga(lmp)=06w6d" what does that mean? Is that a measurement of the baby determined by the ultrasound?
Gestational age (GA): = how many weeks pregnant you are from the first day of your last menstrual period (lmp) to the date of the exam. It estimates your due date within 4-6 days. Full term gestation = 38-42 weeks. Conceptional age = time since implantation, often known when assistive reproductive techniques are used. It's 2 weeks < than gestational age. The baby center's free app, " my pregnancy today" is useful. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Elevated pth, sono showed swolken lymph nodes some had a red and blue color on the scan some didn't. What is that? Is that a tumor?
Not necessarily: You indicate that the us showed swollen lymph nodes but you don't say how large they were or whether they had normal appearing anatomy. The red and blue color inmdicates blood flow in the node on a doppler picture done to evaluate blood flow. Again amount of flow may be normal or not. Ask your doctor. ...Read more
Vascular flow direct: Assigning color red and blue distinguishes the direction of vascular flow in relation to transducer. The assigned colors are random, but is best to standardize: flow from left side of image to right side of image is assigned red; opposite flow assigned blue. ...Read more
What does it mean when there are a lot of red and blue dots in my bladder and kidneys during an ultrasound?
Vessels: The red and blue dots on ultrasound are most likely blood vessels that show up on what are called doppler studies of the vessels. Not to be concerned unless the doctor that ordered the ultrasound is concerned about the results and discusses those concerns with you. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for using Healthtap. My husband has a melanoma on the right side of his stomach. Blood work, X-ray and pet scan are normal. Does that mean it is not nessery for a node biopsy?
What is a fuzzy breast lump? My friend just had an ultrasound, and the dr said the outside of the lump looked "fuzzy". What does this mean? She also had to get a biopsy and is now awaiting the results.
Irregular edge: Ultrasound usually shows a border to a breast mass. If the edges are "fuzzy" this means they are not well defined. For example, a cyst, as a well defined border. A fibroadenoma has a discrete capsule or broder. When it is fuzzy, it is more challenging to know if it is benign or malignant, and that is why a biopsy was ordered. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I had an ultrasound down on a mass in my leg and it was found to have an echogenic ring with a hypoechoic center what is this? It is about the size of a pea and is tender to the touch.,
An : An echogenic ring with a hypoechoic center may represent a cyst or abscess. If it is red and tender i would favor abscess (infection) and suggest that you see a surgeon. If it is around the knee or ankle and isn't red, it is more likely a synovial cyst. Synovial cyst would be less urgent, but may also warrant an orthopedic surgery evaluation. ...Read more
Blood Flow, Motion: Doppler detects movement, typically of the blood. Red usually means flow towards transducer, blue away but they can be reversed. Movement of the heart and the cardiac valves can also generate color signals. Jets of urine entering the bladder or amniotic fluid in and out of the fetal nose will also show color. ...Read more
During a recent thyroid ultra sound there were both red and blue highlighted areas. The tech said it was blood flow.... Red and blue? Is that normal
FLOW STUDIES: Yes. Red is usually the color for arterial blood flow, blue for vein flow or decreased flow or flow in small caliber blood vessels. ...Read more
