In: In general, for uncomplicated surgeries, it is recommended to wait 6-8 weeks prior to lifting anything heavier that a gallon of milk. This is because the tensile strength of a wound is relatively stable at this point. After this, a slow return to normal pre-surgery activity should ensue. ...Read more

Just had emergency appendix surgery. It had blockage. How long does it take to heal with scope. He gave norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) 7mg 1-2 tabs can I take 2 at same time.

Give it time.: Emergent surgery is especially rapid, necessarily, so healing can take longer than you may expect. And, no, you really should not take more than 10mg Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) at once. Two of those pills at the same time would be too much. ...Read more

Is appendix surgery dangerous?

Is appendix surgery dangerous?

No.: An appendectomy is one of the most common and straightforward operations performed by general surgeons. The risk of surgery is primarily related to the overall health of the patient. With acute appendicitis, the appendix, by definition, is "infected". Therefore, most complications are related to one's response to infection. Most people are home in a day-or-two and back to normal in a few wks. ...Read more

I supposedly have an intussuscepted appendix. Surgery has been offered, but I don't know what to do. Any recommendation?

Surgery: Intussusception in adults may be caused by a tumor (e.g. Tumor at the tip of the appendix acts as a lead point that causes it to intussuscept). No surgery is without a risk, but if there are no contraindications to surgery with general anesthesia, it is an indicated procedure in this case. The tumor, if present, may be too small to be detected by imaging studies. ...Read more

After appendix surgery, doing intance activities could you develope having hernia? How can you tell if you have hernia or not?

If hurts, don't do it: Wait at least 2 weeks after a lap appy before you do any heavy lifting. We usually rec'd no lifting > 20lbs for 2 weeks. A hernia will present with a bulge that gets bigger with abdominal pressure. A seroma will stay the same size. ...Read more

Hello docs. I was wondering can we eat eggs after appendix surgery?

Yes, usually fine: Eating eggs is totally permissible for those that do not have an appendix, if it was removed for acute appendicitis. On rare occasion, undiagnosed intolerance or allergy to eggs can result in a misdiagnosis of appendicitis. In this case, the symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhea) will persist after appendectomy, since the allergy is in the intestinal tract. If this is the case, see an allergist. ...Read more

How can I reduce my tummy? I had appendix surgery 12 years ago

No relationship --: -between the 2. By tummy you need 2 B a little more specific. Pot belly or layer of fat outside of the abdominal muscles. Also did you have this prior 2 the appy? Core strengthening will tone the abdominals, but the outer layer is genetically driven. You can't target it if it's just poor tone core strength will tighten it up but it takes a lot of work in the gym or @ home. ...Read more
