What's a recommended daily dosage of OTC vitamin d supplement? Should it be taken with food?

Find blood levels: Many people are vitamin d3 deficient, and it's important to have enough. So you're right to pursue this. A blood test to know your level is the best thing to get. That way you can supplement with the right amount. Until you know that it's safe to take up to 5000 units per day. ...Read more

Vitamin d deficient, 25hydroxy test result 5.8. What brand supplement and dosage is recommended?

Vitamin D3: Any brand will do. If you have access to Costco, buy pills of 5000 units and take one every day for three months. After that reduce the dose to about 2000 units/day. it may be beneficial to add a multivitamin to your daily routine. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

I find it hard to get enough omega-3 and vitamin-d as well as potassium just from food alone as recommended dosages is 2-3g; 1000iu and 4700 ?

Food then supplement: Evidence currently suggests that eating healthy is best way to stay healthy. Attempts to isolate specific factors from food and sell said factors as supplements have not demonstrated much benefit. With that said, if you don't like or can't eat enough fish, dairy & fruits/veggies, i suppose you could/should take supplements. But i'd still recommend real food first. Btw, fda doesn't approve suppleme. ...Read more

How much vitamin d should I take.? I am not often in the sun, and someone recommended a 5000 dose sublingual once a day, so I take them. Any harm?

Depends: Hi. There's no absolute right level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-D) in the blood. My personal goal for patients is to be at or above the mid-30's. It's estimated that you raise 25-D by about 6 for every 1,000 units of oral vitamin D you take. Therefore, based on how low you are, that helps you estimate a reasonable amount to take. Vit D toxicity is a myth; only calcitriol can be toxic. Good luck! ...Read more

300 000 iu im injection of d2 raised vitamin d levels from 8 mg/ml to 20. What oral dose of D3 would you recommend now and why? How long for?

300 000 iu im injection of d2 raised vitamin d levels from 8 mg/ml to 20. What oral dose of D3 would you recommend now and why? How long for?

5-10,000 IU Daily: I think you mean ng/ml. I like my patients to be in the vicinity of 70 ng/ml. That means you would need to increase your levels by nearly 60 ng/ml from where you are now. I suggest 10, 000 iu per day of d3 for at least one year. You could re-test at any time to see how you are doing. ...Read more

My vitamin D was 10 ng/mL so my doctor recommended taking 2000 IU daily. How long should I take this dose?

Low vitamin D: requires supplementation of D3. Please do what your doc says but 2000 IUs is fairly low. Most of my patients take 5000 IUs daily. Your doc will probably re-test in a few months and you can ask him/her about the dose then. Peace and good health. ...Read more

I was told to either take 50,000 IU of Vitamin D once a week or 10,000 IU daily for a week. Which option is best? Should I split daily dosages?

Vit D: Take Vitamin D3. It is superior to D2. Take 5000 iu of D3 daily. 10000 iu is too much. Take 5000 iu daily for one week. Then drop to 2000 iu daily. ...Read more

I recently got to know that I am vitamin d deficient and its 25. I have been very high dosage of vit d3. How long will it take me to recover completly?

6-8 weeks: It usually takes 6-8 weeks to replace your stores, but that can vary a lot person to person depending on how well your body absorbs the supplement. Recommend also try to get in sun (use your sunscreen though) to help produce natural vitamin d. Also, even when your stores are filled back up, you have ongoing needs for the vitamin, so just don't stop cold turkey with supplementation. ...Read more

Hi. I'm 19 boy. I wanna buy calcium vitamin D and I wanna know the maximum of daily dosage I can take.

Why do you feel: you need calcium? If you don't have lab tests to support this it's best not to take it. Just to answer your question, the US RDA for calcium is 1000 mg daily. Having co-factors like D3, K, etc. help it to go to your bones. I see that you have prostatitis and depression. The D3 can help w/depression and mood. Please see your doc for more guidance. Peace and good health. ...Read more

My vitaman d level is 10 nmol/l what dosage vitamin d shall i take my dr prescribed me 800iu twice aday ?

Recommend more!: Many authorities say most adults need to take 5-8, 000 iu of vit d3 a day to achieve optimal levels (though less may be needed in summer months if you get mid-day sun without protection). Some advise 10, 000 iu/day for 3 months if your level is low. Toxicity has not been reported with doses of 10, 000 iu or less, but it is wise to recheck blood levels periodically. See my comment as well:. ...Read more

I'm currently vitamin D deficient last checked (16). I want to purchase some vitamin D3. But I'm unsure of the dosage and how long I should take it.

Try 5000 iu/day: Most adults need to take 5-8000 iu/day to achieve optimal levels, which are 50-80. Everyone in US should take Vit D3 in fall and winter months as it is impossible to get D from the sun at that time. If you get enough sun in summer you don't need to take it then, but you do not seem to be getting sun so I advise you take it year-round. Vitamin d: Imam unaware of direct link between vitamin d and RLS, however given vitamin d's important and widespread effect on the body it certainly could. The time of a few months should be expected to get the level back and cause effect. Remember to get some teal sunshine too! ...Read more
