What Is The Purpose Of Catecholamines Tests
Had catecholamine Injection test . My dopamine & catecholamine levels were negative 30 & negative 60. What does that mean if normsl range start at 0?
Can methylphenidate causehigh lvls catecholamines fractionated blod test?+mking result undifferentiat so hyperadrnrgcpots cannot be diagnosis b/c of med use?
Ritalin (methylphenidate) and POTS: Methylphenidate shows up as methampetamine in a blood test. To DX hyperadrenergic postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (pots) would be a clinical issue not primarily based on a blood test. I can see trying methylphenidate for the chronic fatigue aspects of pots, but the best treatment is often regular aerobic exercise. ...Read more
Had catecholamine test. After injection, dopamine result was still <30. Normal range if 0-48. My epinephrine was <15. Normal is 0-62. Meaning/cause?
Results are normal.: The catecholamines are checked to see if there is excessive production of hormones from the adrenal medulla. This may results in high blood pressure, palpitations, sweating, headaches, anxiety / panic. Your levels are normal and this is reassuring. What injection did you receive before checking for dopamine? ...Read more

Temporary, maybe: 24 hour urine tests for catecholamines are checking for epinephrine, norepinephrine, & other compounds that can be produced by catecholamine-secreting tumors called pheochromocytomas. Panic attacks alone might temporarily raise these levels, but not in sustained fashion like one of these tumors can. When present, pheochromocytomas can cause anxiety and panic attacks and raise urine catecholamines. ...Read more
What are the other causes of elevated catecholamines in a 24 hour urine test if it is not a pheochromocytoma?
How High?: There are many causes of elevated catechols in a 24 hour urine sample. Depending on the test used medications can interfere with catechol levels, including things as simple as acetaminophen & certain beta blocker medications. If only mildly elevated something as simple as stress can elev the labs. There is a cond called a paraganglioma. The cond's make diff catechols, the breakdown is helpful. ...Read more
Diagnosed w/POTS syndrome. Feel much better on florinef (fludrocortisone) & beta bloceker. Explain why doc wants me to stop all meds & get catecholamine test.Necessary?
Despite normal tilt table test & neg cortisol stim test, neuromd now ordered catecholamine testing for autonomic dysfuntion d/t my sx.If +, what is tx?
I think u have: Orthostatic hupotension- a drop in blood pressure with changing position from a lying to an upright position. Follow up with them. Get checked for diabetes .Treatment depends on the underlying condition . Avoidance of sudden rising up will minimize the sx. If there's a regular drop in blood pressure, there are meds to sustain normal bp. Pls read link below. ...Read more
What other blood tests (other than catecholamines and metanephrine) would

Pheocrhomocytoma: The two blood tests you mentioned for catecholoamines and metanephrine are the only 2 i know of. Sed rate is nonspecific. ...Read more
