What can I do if my fasting sugar is 106 and 2 hours later after a meal 110. Is this pre diabetes?

Technically the: Fasting (if a lab sugar) is in the prediabetes range, but not the post meal. However, why are you worried about that it's called. It's all a progression from obesity -> Insulin resistance -> pre diabetes -> true diabetes. Why wait for the name to change. Start to protect yourself now with education, diet, exercise, weight loss and prevention. Don't wait until after the fact. ...Read more

What is the normal range for blood sugar 3 hours after a meal (dinner)?

What is the normal range for blood sugar 3 hours after a meal (dinner)?

Depends: It depends on what you ate for dinner and what was your carbohydrate intake in the previous 3 days. There are not "normal" figures for the circumstance you described, however, if your blood sugar was higher than 140, it would be prudent to consult a doctor for fasting blood sugar and if needed, a glucose tolerance test. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

What is a normal blood sugar after a meal? #nqlu my boyfriend is a diabetic and had a 177 blood sugar level after our meal. Mine was 157. Is that normail?

What is a normal blood sugar after a meal? #nqlu my boyfriend is a diabetic and had a 177 blood sugar level after our meal. Mine was 157. Is that normail?

The : The most important point to stress here is when the blood sugar is taken after a meal. Two hours after a meal is a true measure of how well your body is allowing the sugar you consumed to be taken up by the cells( role of insulin). If you take it around an hour after, that is merely an indication of how much sugar you ingested at the meal and does not really tell us much. Therefore the two hour is what will give you useful information. If your boyfriend has well controlled diabetes, then his blood sugar should be 140 or less after two hours. If a non-diabetic such as yourself has a blood sugar greater than or equal to about 140 after two hours then you may have an issue with processing sugar, and will need to see your doctor for diabetes testing. There is no established normal range that we use for non-diabetics at two hours, but most doctors use the 140 cutoff. Please remember the two hour blood sugar test is the most useful. Please see your doctor if you have any further questions or concerns. All the best. ...Read more

My blood glucose level(2 hrs after meal) is 300 immediately after masturbation, i am type 2 and my normal BG is 160-180 after meal. Is this normal?

My blood glucose level(2 hrs after meal) is 300 immediately after masturbation, i am type 2 and my normal BG is 160-180 after meal. Is this normal?

No, not normal: Hi. We don't know what you're using to manage your diabetes, but no, a 300 after a meal is not normal (and masturbating had nothing to do with that). And your "normal" BG range of 160-180 is not normal either. Your A1c forms the basis for assessment of risk of diabetic complications, not your infrequent BG testing. I suggest you talk with your doc, with A1c i mind to fine-tune your regimen. ...Read more

Would a blood sugar for 16 year old girl, small, active, thin; of 180 at bedtime 7 hours after last mean type 2 or type 1 diabetes? morning level 122

Borderline: The blood sugar levels are in the impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or borderline range. Since the situation can progress to diabetes further testing by a specialist is advised so that the diabetes type can be diagnosed and treated before it gets worse. For this age type 1, type 2 (although less likely when non-obese) and more rarely a genetic defect in insulin secretion are possible ...Read more

Dr.hinkle,
My fasting glucose level is 84. However, my after meal glucose for 1hr is 152, after 2 hrs is 125 and after 3hrs is 115. Is this normal?

Well.. . no...: but there is a definite pattern here of pre-diabetes type II. In diabetes type II, the body doesn't respond to insulin. The insulin level compensates by going sky high. If sugar in (food) then, the blood glucose is unregulated HIGH because it doesn't respond to insulin to lower it. BUT that high insulin sticks around and when food gone sugar bottoms out. Diet, exercise, weight loss, metformin, etc ...Read more
