What is the hormone thought to be linked to obesity?

Leptin: You are probably thinking of leptin. If you delete leptin from a mouse, it gets very obese. If you are obese and not a mouse, however, your leptin levels are actually very high (except for some very rare human mutations). So the problem is not inadequate leptin, but a poor response of our brain to our leptin. Leptin injections were tried as a drug treatment, but were disappointing. ...Read more

This was subsequently adopted by the medical disease industry. However, BMI is ...Read more

Age 40. Never been diabetic or fat. I thought Type 2 only afflicts fat/obese people. So if I've been diagnosed as pre-diabetic is it Type 1?

Could be type 1: Hi. Yes, type 1 is certainly possible. Easiest way to tell would be to check type 1 autoantibodies (antibodies against GAD, IA-2, and insulin). Respect Obesity: I like this question. It may garnish a number of different responses. My first thought is that fear of obesity leads many people to be mean, prejudiced, and to treat the overweight poorly. I often think that the morbidly obese i see and treat may have some significant trauma in their past and they need compassion, caring, and understanding to get to a healthy place.
