Neuroleptic akathisia. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) when it occurs but sometimes it doesn't suffice & i need cogentin. Can cogentin be used daily for chronic akathisia?

Detergent reaction: You can try OTC topical hydrocortisone 1% cream. Akathesia, although very rare, may occur with first generation antihistamines as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) , hopefully not the case with the newer less sedating as loratadine or desloratadine, as for your akathesia vs RLS, I believe you need to see an experienced neurologist for assessment, best wishes ...Read more

Bad: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can make you sleepy, but it can have after effects. Studies show that using too much of it can lessen your responses similar to drinking alcohol.
