A shot and not: As dr. Milstone said, Coumadin (warfarin) in a pill and Lovenox is a shot. The amount of Coumadin (warfarin) you take has to be checked with blood tests on a regular basis. Lovenox does not but Lovenox can cause a very serious side effect involving your platelets that Coumadin (warfarin) doesn't. Lovenox is expenisve, Coumadin (warfarin) is much cheaper. Ufh is very large , while lmwh is smaller. Dosing of UFH is IV or sq every 8-12 hrs, and lmwh sq every 12-24 hrs. Care is needed with lmwh if renal failure.
