Few if any: Doxy: most side effects we've experienced are nausea. Accutane: most side effects we've experienced are dry skin and headache. However, dry skin after use of Accutane should be seen as 'normal'. Because it decreases/controls the function of sebaceous glands which leading to the control of acne. Depression is very rare. Suicide? Only happened in lawsuit, not in my (and my many colleagues’’) exper. ...Read more
Yes: There is one important potential interaction. Monocycline and doxycycline have caused depression. Should i risk Accutane (isotretinoin)? What are my other options?
YES: Typical course of Accutane is 5 months. Usually the acne is clearing by the 3rd month. At that time you no longer need the doryx (doxycycline). Most people prefer the generic Doxycycline in a low dose because it costs so much less than the brand "doryx (doxycycline)". Most people need little or no treatment after a course of accutane. The brand "accutane" has been dropped and replaced by generic isotretinoin. ...Read more

Acne: If it is the deep hormonal type acne around the chin, mouth, nose, and middle forehead area- the only topical that I have seen work is a product from Europe called Juvases teens. It works by inhibiting the action of the hormone on the sebaceous gland so it never erupts in the first place. Also - an excellent gentle scrub is important as well. I like Mandelac acid scrub, professional strength. ...Read more

Is there a significant difference between remission in 120 mg/kg Accutane cumulatively and 150 mg/kg? Or is remission fairly constant after 120 mg/kg?
How much of a difference is there in Accutane remission rates between 120mg/kg cumulatively and 150mg/kg?
Accutane: No data on that specific question. The usual initial dose of 1 mg/kg/day for 20 weeks would be 140 mg/kg and cures about 50% of patients. The other 50% need a second course of 2mg/kg/day for an additional 20 weeks to effect a cure. Treatment at these doses requires weekly monitoring by your doctor and weekly blood tests to watch closely for adverse side effects. ...Read more
What's the difference in taking Accutane 2 times a day(2x40mg), breakfast and dinner instead of just taking once a day at dinner ?
Below: Accutane has a fairly long half-life so it shouldn’t hurt if patients fit the dosage schedule to their lifestyle. (Drugs with long half-lives do not need to be taken in split doses to maintain adequate blood levels). Taking large single doses can cause indigestion (hence warning on label to take with or after food), so if you want to take it as a single dose with a meal, fine. If it causes indigestion, split into two doses. ...Read more
