Mgt/workup: The black color may be related to a number of things. If there is tar in the air, old blood in any area of the airway, this can cause this color in the sputum. If he is aspirating from his stomach, then this could also lead to this finding. I would suggest collecting sputum and taking it to your PCP for analysis. Don't eat them..: Raw sea food is dangerous anyhow. Hot sauce will not do anything against bacteria. Also, since you are allergic to other foods, you may very well be allergic to sea food also. I would: As tasty as your routine is, the fact is you can live without oysters. You might not be able to say the same with a serious infection, which you are at higher risk for on enbrel (etanercept). No matter how good the source, raw foods contain germs that can cause disease. Vibrio vulnificus: The major risk here is infection with halophilic (salt-loving) vibrio species. This is a curved bacteria that like vibrio parahemolyticus (the most common cause of food borne gastroenteritis in japan), can do the same in the usa, but in people who may have high levels of serum iron they can develop life-threatening sepsis.
