I have severe redundant bowel due to chronic gas distension, in both widths and length, causes massive pain and nausea, would temp ileostomy help?

Need more info: Which part of your bowel is redundant - large or small bowel? How do you know? How long have you had symptoms? If the excess bowel is the large intestine, sometimes a bowel resection can help. I have never performed an ileostomy for this problem, I have done colon resections with a good bit of success. Have you seen a surgeon to discuss your options? ...Read more

SubColectomy w/Ileostomy Placmnt in 01, Abdominal Dishences frm c.diff infec causin rectum removl. Ileostomy revisn X2 in 09. Reversal Possible now?

Maybe: It depends on whether or not the rectum was removed or not. There's no reason to think you have a sphincter problem, and if that's true, along with the presence of the rectum, you may be able to get reversed. Without most of the colon, likely to have frequent BM's. see a colorectal surgeon for a more complete eval. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Variety of causes: Anastomotic leaks can occur for a variety of reasons and are a known complication of GI surgery. The primary concern with anatomic leak is the passage of stool into the abdomen with the formation of abscesses and possibly systemic infections. The treatment for this is often to operate, find the leak, and wash out any stool that may have collected in the process. ...Read more

I have severely redundant colon that pushes up into my stomach, excruciating pain and nausea if I had temp ileostomy would I still have same symptoms?

I have severely redundant colon that pushes up into my stomach, excruciating pain and nausea if I had temp ileostomy would I still have same symptoms?

Temporary relief: While redundant colon can cause symptoms especially when it displaces upward toward stomach, ileostomy is only temporary relief. Minimizing bowel content reaching distal colon can help for a while but in general the redundant bowel is subject to torsion or twisting and rather then having the problem of bloating and pain one can go on to develop necrosis of bowel requiring emergency surgery. ...Read more
