What is the best way to wean my baby off of bottles?

What is the best way to wean my baby off of bottles?

Depends on the age: If a baby is old enough to sip from a cup, he can drink his milk or water from a regular cup (with help) or from a sippy cup that has a lid. At this age (usually 20-24 months), the parent can have one talk with the child about the bottles going "bye-bye", and make all the bottles in the home disappear overnight. The important thing is to judge when the baby is truly able to drink from a cup. ...Read more

What is the best way to wean my baby off of nursing?

What is the best way to wean my baby off of nursing?

Self wean /natural : The best way is to wait until the baby is ready. Child-led weaning occurs when a child no longer has a need to nurse - nutritionally or emotionally. The most common method is " don't offer" and "don't refuse". More methods of weaning described here http://www.Kellymom.Com/bf/weaning/. ...Read more

Baby is 8 months biting mother when nursing but keeps refusing bottle . Baby is underweight(10 percentile) best way to wean a baby who will not take a bottle but needs nutrition ?

Baby is 8 months biting mother when nursing but keeps refusing bottle . Baby is underweight(10 percentile) best way to wean a baby who will not take a bottle but needs nutrition ?

Work with the doctor: A normal baby at 8 months can easily be trained to take a bottle, if "no breasts are available" to the baby. So, the baby in question appears to have other issues, leading to questions such as: is the baby truly too small, why is the baby too small, why won't the baby take a bottle, etc... In such cases, the parents have to see the doctor a few times and work together to keep the baby growing. ...Read more

Am weaning my 6 week old infant onto formula and he is struggling to poo. Is he constipated?

Change pattern: Weaning from breast milk to formula can result in a change in consistency of the stool. If your baby has not had a bowel movement in a few days, I would advise a visit with your pediatrician. The baby's mouth and eyes should be moist. ...Read more

My infant has had runny seedy poos for three weeks now and cries a lot after feeds. Is it ok to mix/wean soy formula with his milk based formula?

See a doctor: If your baby is really fussy after feeding, see your doctor to make sure there is not a problem- infection, not digesting feedings well, allergy to some component of the formula, or other concerns. Don't change the formula without checking with your baby's doctor. ...Read more

My 6 wk infant has had runny seedy green poos since weaning him onto formulae. No fever or blood and isn't vomiting. Would it be safe to try soy?

My 6 wk infant has had runny seedy green poos since weaning him onto formulae. No fever or blood and isn't vomiting. Would it be safe to try soy?

Normal poop: While it is certainly fine to try soy formula, what you are describing is perfectly normal poop for a 6 week old. Their stools are very runny and seedy, and colors range from yellow to green to brown to orange. The colors we don't like are white, red and black. These sound like very healthy, normal poops, so i don't think a formula change is even needed. ...Read more

How can I balance breastfeeding on demand and weaning my infant off of breast milk?

How can I balance breastfeeding on demand and weaning my infant off of breast milk?

Don't be in a hurry!: The simplest, most natural way to wean is when your child initiates the process, usually around when solids are started. But if you're ready and they're not, try slowly tapering the number of nursing sessions every two or three days by replacing a nursing session with an alternative meal from a bottle/sippy cup/other foods (if ready). With luck, she'll be too busy with new experiences to notice! ...Read more

What is the best way to wean off lexapro (escitalopram)? On 10mg for about 8 months.

What is the best way to wean off lexapro (escitalopram)? On 10mg for about 8 months.

Work w/your doctor: First discuss with your doctor how you are with the condition for which Lexapro (escitalopram) was prescribed. Most people dealing with major depression need to stay on this medication for 8 months - 1 year at least to avoid relapse -- and you're right at 8 months. If all is well, your doctor can help you with a tapering process. Sometimes symptoms return, and the medicine needs to he re-instated. ...Read more

What is the best way to wean myself off of 120mg of oxy a day? Been on pain mgmt for 1y doc wants to go methadone route, but terrified of that!

Tell your doctor: Tell your doctor you want to be weaned off. Most doctors would be happy to help you reduce the doses gradually until you are off or on a lower dose. If the pain you are suffering is so severe that when the dose is decreased your pain is not controlled, a long acting agent is always a good idea. Methadone is a great analgesic. There are many agents other than methadone. Discuss it with md. ...Read more

On Suboxone for 1 1/2 year down to 1/8 strip a day 8/2mg strip. What is the best way to wean off this with little with draw. Doctor is no help. ?

Good job on taper: Can taper more, for e.g., 2mg strips-1/4 (.5mg)/day, then .5mg every other day or 1/8 (.25mg, hard to do)/day & then stop. Must be physically, mentally & socially ready. Work out detailed timing & individualized plan w/ a supportive doctor.. Short-term supportive meds can be used to minimize withdrawal. 99% of the time will have some degree of withdrawal, regardless. Good luck & think good. ...Read more

I have been on Zoloft for over a year, but have been wanting to get off. Missed three doses over MLK by accident. What is the best way to wean off now

Did you have trouble: withdrawing from the Zoloft during the three days? Any symptoms? Other SSRI's are notorious for creating havoc by too quickly quitting (Paxil, Effexor and now Cymbalta). Zoloft and Prosac are not usually in this category, so you may be lucky. Consult with your prescribing MD, but generally withdrawal is better if you reduce the dose by a third, one week at a time. ...Read more
