What Is The Best Treatment For Severely Dry Skin Over The Counter Lotion
Dry skin: Ingredients that are helpful for dry skin: ceramides help skin hold water, dimethicone and glycerin draw water to the skin, hyaluronic acid helps the skin hold water, lanolin, mineral oil, and petroleum help keep water on the skin. Read the label and get moisturizers with these products such as cerave, restoraderm, cutemol, and aquaphor.See 1 more doctor answer
Lubriderm advanced therapy lotion good for dry skin?? Been using Aveeno (oatmeal) right after the shower still dry... How can I prevent chicken skin spots??
Other creams help: For rough bumps (or "chicken skin" or keratosis pilaris), it's helpful to use a moisturizer with a "keratolytic" ingredient -- this breaks down the more thick rough skin that sometimes builds up in pores and leads to rough bumps. Keratolytics include salicylic acid, ammonium lactate, and urea. Cerave SA cream and Amlactin are two over the counter examples that have one of those ingredients.
Many different kinds: Dry skin reflects weather conditions and dehydration, drink more water and less cafeine, 30% humidity with dry heat helps any formula you use. Depending on the condition of your skin some people respond better to the thinner lotions becaise they get better absorbed and others do better with the thicker preparations because they coat and protect.
Depends: You can try amlactin, cetaphil, or eucerin lotion-remember everyone respond differently-one may works well for you, but not necessary for others or vice versa. If not work, you can see dermatologist.

What o t c lotion is the best for psoriasis dry skin? Hello, i, ve had psoriasis for a number of years and the dry itchy skin is miserable, thanks, judy
Psoriasis: Psoriasis is an inflammatory condition, so otc moisturizer creams/lotions only help to a small extent. Read more about treatment options for the various types of psoriasis at the link below. Also, take a quick peek at the eczema page to make sure this isn't what you might be suffering from. I hope that helps a little!See 1 more doctor answer
Reduce use of soap: Limit soap to the critical areas (hands, face, axillae, and groin) and use no washcloth or loufa. I bet the dry skin will disappear in days.
Alvin'sBestSnakeOil: Of course I'm being facetious b/c there really isn't one best lotion for everyone. So before looking for solutions, focus on causes of dry skin eg http://www. Mayoclinic. Org/diseases-conditions/dry-skin/basics/causes/con-20030009. Check out http://www. Webmd. Com/beauty/dry-skin-13/cosmetic-procedures-skin-care-dry-skin for helpful ingredients in dry skin lotions. Failing that, go c ur Dermatologist.
Cetaphil makes one: Cetaphil makes one with an spf of 50. Neutrogena also makes some good ones. There are others, too.
Moisturizers: Restoraderm lotion by cetaphil is fantastic! Any exfoliating ingredients, such as urea, salicylic acid are good ingredients as well.
Do more than creams: Try to minmize activities that cause your dry skin--avoid long hot shower/bath, minimize use of body washes/scrubbing, use of humidifer in winter/cold season, and minimize use of meds if not needed. Applying moisturing lotion such as aquaphor 2-3x/day, especially after shower/bath, will help. If not adequate, consult doc as u may need prescription meds. Good luck.
Recommendations: Functional lotions, such as those that replace sphingolipid ceramide (e.g., cerave) work very well as moisturizers, either as a cream or a lotion, in the treatment of xerosis cutis or dry skin.
Vanicream: I really like Vanicream but Cetaphil, Eucerin and Cerave are all good options. In addition avoid long hot showers and harsh and drying cleansers like Ivory, Irish Spring, or Lever 2000. Apply fragrance-free moisturizer like Vanicream immediately after shower to damp skin. For break-through itch Sarna lotion can be added.
Ceramide Lotions: Especially if you have sensitive, dry skin, daily application of a fragrance-free, oil-free moisturizing lotion (cerave) will promote normal desquamation and exfoliation of the epidermis. In addition, it contains ceramide that will reduce insensible water loss and enhance the barrier function and epidermal and dermal water content.
I have very itchy dry skin. What is the best soap or lotion to help moisturize? I tend to have sensitive skin.
Hypoallergenic: Cleansers or lotions that are formulated for dry sensitive skin and dermatology tested such as aveeno, (oatmeal) cetaphil, cerave, nutraderm, eucerin, lubriderm, vanicream, burt's bees, neutrogena are all good. Be sure to avoid lotions and cleansers that contain fragrance.See 1 more doctor answer
