What does it mean to have a low body temperature but don't feel sick?

Probably nothing: If you have low thyroid hormone you may run lower than normal body temps, as well as if you have been out in cold weather for a long time period. It would be helpful if you told us what your temperature was, and how you measured it.

What exactly does it mean to have a low body temperature?

May be hypothyroid: If you are not very ill, which can lead to a low temperature, and the temp is below 97. 6, you may be hypothyroid. Remember, 98.6 is average, normal can be 1 degree above or below. The temperature normally goes down at night and is lowest about 4:00-6:00 A.M. About 2 hours before awakening. Then it can be as low as 97.

Basal temperature: Your temperature is not lower at ovulation it is your baseline temperature. After ovulation you have an increase in temperature by about 1/2 to 1 degree caused by progesterone. If you are not pregnant your tempaerature will return to the basal level when your next period starts. Some people note a slight drop in temp just prior to ovulation but this is not consistent.

Does having low body temperature make your toes cold?

Does having low body temperature make your toes cold?

Blood flow: I think cold toes is more related to blood flow. If there is decreased blood flow or quality of the blood (meaning it could be thin, or less nutrient supply in the blood) then this would cause cold toes. For example: raynaud's where the small vessels go into spasm hence not delivering the blood properly. I think temp has less to do with it.

Hi doc.is the POS one of the cause having low body temperature?thank u

I assume U mean PCOS: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is almost invariably associated with hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism, likewise, is often a cause of low body temperature. Find a physician who will treat your thyroid. I suggest a member of ACAM (American College for Advancement in Medicine) or ACIM (American College of Integrative Medicine).

What could low body temperature be a sign of in reproductive age women?

What could low body temperature be a sign of in reproductive age women?

Thyroid: Having low body temperature means you have a low metabolism. Heat is produced when body burns calories to create energy, and this heat contributes to your body temp. Having a slow metabolism and low body temp is very suggestive of underactive thyroid function. This isn't always seen on blood tests. If labs are normal, seek help from an md who practices holistic or functional medicine.

It depends: Acute drops in body temperature can be a sign of an acute illness or injury and you should be seen by a health care provider right away. If this is a chronic issue and you have no other symptoms, you may be someone who's temperature exists on the low end of normal. Either way, it would be worth discussing with a health care provider.

You may consult this site for more information on this topic: http://www.webmd.com/first-aid/body-temperature For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. What causes low body temperature in an adult?

What causes low body temperature in an adult?

Low body temperature: The vast majority of low temperatures in adults are actually normal. We say 98.6 is the normal temperature, but actually normal is a range from approximately 97 to 99. The rare pathologic and clinically significant causes of low body temperature are hypothyroidism, hypothermia, severe infection in the blood stream, shock, and the period just after a high fever (often your body overcools itself).
