My mother's eye sight is +1.75. Does it mean her corrected vision is 20/20, if she can see distant objects?

My mother's eye sight is +1.75. Does it mean her corrected vision is 20/20, if she can see distant objects?

No: Eye sight is measured as 20/20, 20/30, 20/40 etc. The refractive power is measured in diopters (look up on internet). A + 1.75 is a power of correction for the eye. If this is her true prescription then she is far sighted (focus past the far point). If this is her reading add then it is for reading at about 22-24 inches. ...Read more

Explain how eye can accommodate for viewing very close and distant objects?

Lens power increases: The focusing muscle of the eye ( ciliary body) contracts lowering the tension on the lens from fibers (zonules) that connect it to the circumferance of the lens the lens gets thicker and increases in power focusing light rays from near objects on the retina. When it relaxes the opposite happens the lens thins and distant light rays are put in focus. ...Read more

How can the human eye accommodate for viewing very close and very distant objects?

How can the human eye accommodate for viewing very close and very distant objects?

Natural: The lens of the eye is connected to a muscle behind the iris is called the ciliary body. When the ciliary body contracts, the fibers connecting the lens called the zonules relax, & the lens fattens. When the ciliary body relaxes the fibers tighten & the lens flattens. This change in shape causes a change in the way light is bent through the lens and this changes the focusing for distance & near. ...Read more

Have macular pucker. Doorways wavy, objects larger but see 20/20. Could difficulty seeing curbs and turn lanes when driving at night be a symptom?

Hard to say: Getting the opinion of a retina specialist that can examine the eye carefully and see what other, if any, eye problems might contribute, would be most appropriate. If there are no other problems and the pucker is identified as the cause symptoms, then the risk of surgery must be weighted against the magnitude of the problem and visual acuity, for surgical decision making. ...Read more
