Here are some...: Real infection of kidneys has been known to involve the thick heterogeneous kidney tissue which poses more difficulty for antibiotics to penetrate to kill germs thoroughly as opposed to UTI limited to bladder and urethra. Chiefly, experience has proved the adequate length of using antibiotics for the infection at different organs by different germs. But personal immunity also plays important role.See 1 more doctor answer

Pyelonephritis: If you have not had a longer period of treatment than it may be several days or more before the inflammation in your kidneys begins to recede and your symptoms diminish. Your prior question did not indicate how few doses you have had. Symptomatic improvement can lag significantly behind elimination of the causative agent.
I am on anitibiotic for a kidney infection could this cause urine odor and burning sensaton when I urinate?

Antibiotics: Kidney infections are treated with appropriate antibiotics, depending on the severity of infection and its spread in blood stream you may treat with oran antibiotics for uncomplicated kidney infections, or IV antibiotics with kidney infection with sepsis.
No. Not a good idea.: No. Need a full course of antibiotics to treat an infection, and "leftovers" might not provide you with enough medicine to treat the infection. Also, not all antibiotics treat urinary infections. A "leftover" antibiotic from a previous skin infection, for example, might not work for your present urinary tract infection.See 1 more doctor answer

Will vary.: Kidney infections are serious and require prompt treatment with the right antibiotic. Flank pain is the most common symptom and can range from mild flank discomfort to severe flank pain with fever, nausea, and vomiting. If you think you have a kidney infection, see your physician as soon as you can for evaluation and urine culture.
Extremely: Antibiotics are not causing the fever, the infection is. They might be making the nausea from infection worse, which can sometimes be helped if take w/food. If vomiting up all food/drink, then will need hospitalized for IV antibiotics. Untreated kidney (or other) infection can spread, cause sepsis and death--that is why they are treated.
Suitable antibiotics: U need 2c doctor who will send urine culture to identify bacteria causing infection ; which antibiotic will be effective to kill the bacteria. In mean time start u on a broad spectrum antibiotic like Cipro (ciprofloxacin) or Bactrim for 2 weeks whilst awaiting urine culture result ; chnage antibiotic if necessary. Macrodantin shouldn't be used (poor tissue penetration). Drink lots of water ; get lots of rest.
Antibiotics: A patient with a kidney infections (pyelonephritis) should be treated with an appropriate antibiotic and be kept well hydrated after being seen by a physician. Depending on the situation this can be done in the hospital or at home however, if a patient is not improving on a given regimen then the treatment must be re-evaluated promptly.
