Accupuncture: You can try non steroidal medications like advil (ibuprofen). Accupuncture can help over time with a few sessions. Icy hot cream and patches can help. But if they dont, or symptoms dont get better, i would see your physician for other alternatives. Physical therapy is an option. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My Dr is pressuring me to try methadone to treat my chronic pain in place of my usual narcotics. Is methadone effective for chronic pain and what are the risks?
Good: Epidural steroid injections are best at relieving radiating leg symptoms from nerve root irritation in the spine but they are also fairly good at relieving mechanical low back pain when noninvasive measures have failed. When done by an experienced doctor there is very little risk from the injection. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What is the best way to ask the doctor for anxiety medication without sounding like a drug addict?
Be factual: 1) go to a good doctor. 2) carefully described your symptoms and your history. Having outside records from other docs/treatment facilities is helpful. 3) don't be focused on benzo's. If you come to me and the first thing out of your mouth is "i want xanax, (alprazolam) " i will probably discount anything you say after that. 4) there are other rx for anxiety besides benzo's. Asking for treatment is ok! ...Read more
I went to a pharmacy to get treated of gonorrhea and the pharmacist directed me to go for herbal treatment rather. that thr is no good drugs for it?
Gonorrhea Treatment: In the summer of 2012, the CDC updated the guidelines again - recommending that all gonorrhea cases be treated with injectable, rather than oral, antibiotics. If a pharmacist sent you to the herbal section rather than referring you to be tested by a physician or clinic, then they ought to be reported. That is horrifying to me. I do hope you misunderstood. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

How to treat sciatica nerve pain? What none narcotic meds are good to use? Having pain in lower buttock & lower back area that shoots down the leg when pressure or walking is applied. Not sure what a good none narcotic medication is best to ask the doct
Low : Low back, buttock and "shooting" leg pain are all symptoms of a pinched nerve. It sounds like you may have that problem. If the pain is severe and limiting your activity still, the best non-narcotic medications that I have found to work for my patients are antiinflammatories such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen which are over-the-counter medications. Other non-narcotic medications include tramadol (ultram) which requires a prescription and nerve-pain medications such as gabapentin. These are all to be taken for temporary pain relief. This type of pain typically resolves with time. Ask your primary physician about these if the pain is still limiting you. If it is still going on for more than a month an MRI may be helpful to help sort out what is going on and there could be other potential treatments outside of surgery that could benefit you. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
