I don't think so: It is important to find the cause of your pain & address it. Pain killers reduce pain but not only do nothing to address the cause but, by covering up the pain may lead you to hurt your back further, along with their tendency to serious side effects & dependence. Most times the injection helps the first few hours with pain relief due to local anesthetic and then a period of feeling worse due to the original pain PLUS the mild trauma induced by the needle, THEN feel better with cortisone the next 2 to 7 days. Pinched Nerve/Muscle: Most times back pain that is sudden onset will resolve. You should use anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen, aleve around the clock and even tylenol (acetaminophen) to help. If this does not resolve you should see doctor for a muscle relaxant as well. If it still does not resolve, i would recommend seeing a spine specialist for a full evaluation and testing.
