Bmi is calculated by entering height and weight (pounds or kg, not in stones) into a bmi calculator - you can find one at http://pediatrics.About. Com/cs/usefultools/l/bl_bmi_calc. Htm.
For children, bmi is classified as "normal" (below 85th percentile), overweight (bmi 85th to 94th percentile) and obese (bmi at 95th percentile or above). Overweight and obese classes were changed several years ago. Read more
Depends on height: Hi. BMI is a measure of body habitus that is calculated using your height and weight. It does not take age (in adults) into account. So 20 years old doesn't matter. Height, however, is indispensable in calculating BMI. Therefore, in the absence of critically important information, we have no way to tell you what an average BMI for (20 yo) women is. Good luck! My weight is 66kg now. I want to reduce it to 60 kgs over a period of one year from now. Can I do that even my BMI is average? What is the best method
Slow and consistent: Losing 6 kg (~13 lb) over a one year period of time is reasonable. That is only a decrease of about 3500 calories a month or a little over a 100 calories a day. Start by reducing or eliminating any high calorie drinks such as soda, juice or alcohol. Start a consistent walking program, minimize fast food, concentrate on whole foods: lean meat, veggies and fruit. Have a cheat meal every now and then. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am a 22 year old male with a BMI of 20.1 yet I have a blood pressure reading of 141/82. Is this safe? Can I improve it or will it get worse with age
Not quite normal:
Diet, exercise and salt restriction will help drop your systolic BP (top number) ideally less than 130-139...; however, the diastolic BP of 82 is fine.
I suggest keeping a BP journal. Buy a reliable digitial BP machine and check your pressure 3 times/day: A.M., noon and PM. Average out your daily #s and bring to your PCP. BMI is perfect. Read more
