What Is Tessalon Perles Allergy
Allergies occur when your immune system is triggered by envirionmental factors it should ignore--for example, pollen in the air, or dander on a cat or dog--and creates cells to fight against them. An allergic reaction typically causes itching, congestion, or drainage, and ...Read more

Yes, but . . .: It's always best to ask your prescribing doc & dispensing pharmacist what to take and what to avoid. They can only do that if you tell them everything you take including OTC. More importantly, you need to be very specific & detailed. For instance, there are many versions of Delsym, (dextromethorphan) each w/various medication recipes. I have pneumonia and i'm taking levaquin (levofloxacin) and tessalon perles plus cough syrup------is all that okay?
Perhaps: I find that cough medicines like tessalon perles and non-codeine containing cough meds are not terribly effective for the cough from pneumonia. They are more effective for post nasal drip or tracheitis coughs. If the pneumonia is bacterial, Levaquin (levofloxacin) is often very effective. If the pneumonia is viral-and many pneumonias are-the antibiotic will make no difference. ...Read more

Not likely: Tessalon perles (benzonatate) are used to treat coughing. They provide a local anesthetic to cough receptor triggers. It is unlikely that they would cause fatigue or drowsiness, but to be sure, don't take your fist dose ever and then operate a car, boat, plane, tractor, etc. ...Read more

No need: What you are describing is not necessarily an allergy. Some individuals develop hives when they acquire a viral infection. Allergy testing is of no value in this case. You can always have a rast blood test, which is inferior to the skin test, but i still do not see the need for it in your case. The hives should subside once the infection resolves. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can I take 400mg(2 perles) of Benzonatate at once, since taking the one perle of 200 mg isn't relieving my cough?
Not recommended: You are unlikely to get any additional benefit from a higher dose, but you may get unpleasant side effects. Consider a different cough suppressant, such as dextromethorphan or honey. If these are inadequate, your doctor may prescribe another medication depending on the cause of your cough. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Should be fine: This can potentially cause an overdose by releasing too much medicine at once. Especially in kids or if lots of capsules are chewed at once. You will likely have numbing of the mouth and throat. Avoid eating/swallowing until the numbness wears off, as this could cause aspiration. Systemic signs of overdose: confusion, sedation, hallucinations. If this hasn't happened yet, you are probably fine. ...Read more
Yes: Generally yes. However, benzonatate can cause drowsiness. The first generation antihistamines (such as benadryl, (diphenhydramine) doxepin, chlorpheniramine, and hydroxyzine), can also cause drowsiness. Hence, the affect could be additive. With that in mind, you might want to consider taking a second generation antihistamine such as cetirizine, xyzal, fexofenadine, etc. ...Read more
