Doctor insights on:
What Is Sleep Amnesia
Sleep amnesia: Sleep amnesia is merely a dissociative episode that occurs during sleep. The person can be up and appear awake and doing complex things. However, the rest of their mind may be in a sleep state. This can occur in narcolepsy. The most frequent cause is Ambien or zolpidem. Triazolam was taken off the market in norway because of it. It can be seen in rem and nonrem behavioral disorders as well, and commonly occurs in primary disorders such as dissociative identity disorder or dissociative disorder nos.
Which would be more likely to cause the amnesia side effect some sleep meds can cause, zolpidem or temazepam?
Could be both: Since both have anti-cholinergic effects, either could be the culprit but together, likely additive. If you are taking both, have a in-depth discussion with your doctor.See 2 more doctor answers
I've been on lexapro (10mg) for 15 days and khlonopin (.5mg) for 6 days. Been having horrible sleep and memory loss. Is this interaction harmful?
Caution: Lexapro (escitalopram) + Klonopin can interact to increase side effects of both meds, eg, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion. Review with prescribing doctor right away to consider dose and/or med change. Also avoid alcohol and any recreational drug use. I hope this helps. Best wishes.See 2 more doctor answers
Mom 72 has forgot and amnasia and sleep most of the day. She is 72 years. What I can give to her and what I can do?
I've started getting migraines, speech problems, and memory loss. I haven't slept well in months. Could it be sleep deprivation? How do I fix it?
Possibly: Sleep deprivation as a possible migraine trigger is a realistic concern. The broader and probably more impotant question is why aren't you sleeping well. That may be the cause of not just sleep deficit, but also the migraine and other issues you describe. See your physician. Maybe also a psychologist/psychiatrist. If you know why you aren't sleeping well, address that with them. Good luck.
I have taken 60 mg of temazepam since 2007. It helps with sleeping and anietxy. Should I be concerned with long term memory loss.
Your what?: Oh yes, your memory. I have 800 outpatients. Some are on that dose. I am a psychiatrist and am also a boarded sleep medicine specialist. I have been in my current practice for 21 years. I worry more about ambien, (zolpidem) because of the number of people I have seen develop amnesia on it. I have never seen anyone develop amnesia on temazepam, even at 60 mg doses. 20% of my psych patients have sleep apnea, so I am vigilant about sleeping issues in my practice. I don't think that anyone is comfortable having people on long-term benzodiazepines. However, many people simply need long-term benzodiazepine management. You do have a lot of years ahead of you. Since we really don't know the long-term liability of benzodiazepine use on the memory, it is always best whenever possible to convert to something that might be less of concern. Trazodone comes to mind as a potentially good option. Seroquel is a good sleep drug but it carries more liability long-term then temazepam. Discuss other options with your psychiatrist please.See 1 more doctor answer
Can sleep apnea cause memory loss? And negative thinking? I got diagnosed with sleep apnea but I am not sure how long I've had it.
Yes to both: Not getting the proper amount and type of deep sleep can have many affects on you physically and mentally. Being forgetful and having negative thinking or depression could be a cause or at least make much worse these tendencies. Hopefully getting proper treatment (cpap machine) will help you.
How do I fix sleep deprivation? I've been sleeping more but all my problems (speech problems, memory loss, migraines) have still been getting worse.
I'm 44.Im on no meds other over-the-counter med for acid reflux. I hav no entergy, sleep a lot. And have ED problems. My apptite is slowley going away. And have long and short term memory loss, and depreson?
Male Menopause: This sounds like the metabolic syndrome: pre-diabetic, mildly overweight, lethargic, and most likely with low testosterone. You do not have to live with this at your young age...Not any more. A good men's health expert should be able to put all of this together and provide you with a comprehensive plan to get back to feeling normal.See 1 more doctor answer
I had some zopiclone and diazepam to help me sleep me I can't remember what happened for a full day. What causes the memory loss?
Medication rxtn: Both medications possess substantial effects on brain chemicals due to their anti-cholinergic qualities, and the combination could well affect your memory transiently. Since you possess apparent sensitivity, might propose finding alternative treatment approaches to help your sleep. Have a visit to your doctor and redesign your sleep meds.
Been holding on for several days not eating much, still drinking alcohol, sleeping a lot and having memory loss. How long to live?
How long do you want: It is hard to tell if you are trying to die. If not, stop doing what you are doing - now! This could, indeed kill you but it might be a very unpleasant and unpredictable way to go. If you want to survive - seek serious medical help asap. Go to an er and expect detox after you are stabilized. You must have suffered some hard things and that is so sad. It can get better, if only some. Choose!See 1 more doctor answer
Sir im seek of headche frm last few yearsi can't sleep at night n my body bit weak now days hands shake sometimes I feel like short memory loss?
Neuro: For the symptoms descried in this question, you should consult a neurologist or at least see your regular doctor. They will start by obtaining a detailed medical history from you and then perform an examination. They will likley order an MRI of your brain and obtain labs as well in order to make a diagnosis. This should be done soon.
My spouse suffers from depression; sleeping all day the last 3 days and yesterday has memory loss, confused & is mis-firing, I took him to emergency, tests were done, everything okay. Diagnosed acute depression. 14 years ago he was diagnosed:w/ clinical d
Depression: Depression is very treatable. However, I know of nothing that will make him feel happy or shed his other depressive symptoms between today and tommorrow. I see anxiety tagged. Deep breathing can help with that. Take a deep, slow breath in through the nostrils. Raise the arms to get a full breath. Hold for the count of five. Exhale slowly. Repeat x 12. This might help him to feel a little more centered. Take care.
I am constantly not sleeping well and have brain fog, memory loss, short temper, can't concentrate, and lethargic. What do you suggest to help?
Therapy?: Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room.
No energy during the day can't concentrate memory loss wide awake at night Tryed many sleep meds none work told I have insomnia cud it be ADHD instead?
Hope you are not: Taking the Paxil (paroxetine) at night. (it's an activating antidepressant and should be taken in the morning) You were not on this medication the last time you posted. You need to tell your doctor you are having problems with memory, insomnia and attention. Consider seeing a specialist www. Healthtap. Com/drericweisman
