Im very worried. My serum creatinine was .96mg/dl 3yrs ago. Now its 1.09. Is it bad?Im exercising for1 week 2 days before my test. Male 22y/0. 70 kgs

No need to worry: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. However the result of 1.09 is normal. If your muscle mass has increased from exercise, that would explain this apparent rise in creatinine. ...Read more

Why are a creatinine clearance test and a serum creatinine test done together?

Why are a creatinine clearance test and a serum creatinine test done together?

To get proper result: Creatinine clearance testing procedure and what measured is fully answered in prior question. The serum creatinine must be drawn right after the 24 hour urine collection to calculate how much creatinine is in serum and compare it to the total creatinine in the urine collection, to get an accurate measurement of renal function. ...Read more

I'm wondering why are both a creatinine clearance test and a serum creatinine test done?

I'm wondering why are both a creatinine clearance test and a serum creatinine test done?

Creatinine clearance: People who want to find out their renal function will collect a 24 hour urine for creatinine clearance. The blood sample is used to calculate the clearance of creatinine in the urine as it will be sent off for a creatinine level. Without it, the clearance of creatinine could not be calculated. The result of the test give the actual glomerular filtration rate of the patient. ...Read more

Why are both a creatinine clearance test and a serum creatinine test done? Pain in the rear to collect.

See below: You are right, a collection of the 24 hour urine is cumbersome. It is possible to have a estimate of the GFR and creatinine clearance based on serum creatinine with a formula and tables which are easily available, which dose not require the urine collection. The 24 hour collection may be more accurate in extremes of weight etc and not necessary for most clinical scenarios. ...Read more

I have serum creatinine 31 *10* mol/l in my renal function test .So how can I improve it ?

Abnormal renal tests: You will need to see a nephrologist to have a renal ultrasound and a 24 hour urine collection for a creatinine clearance and protein. And more blood work. If there is some drug toxic to the kidney, ibuprofen, stopping it will help. If you have some obstruction of your urinary outflow tract, relieving it will help as well. Depending on what caused your abnormal tests, you may not be able to improve. ...Read more

I feel weak and did a blood test and it showed the my serum creatinine is 1.2 isn't this high?

Need more info: The creatinine level is within normal limits but you can get more information from the estimated glomerular filtration rate. To calculate the estimated glomerular filtration rate one needs to plug in creatinine, age, sex and race. See this site for info and discuss the matter with your doctor. http://www.kidneyfund.org/kidney-health/kidney-basics/kidney-test-egfr.html. ...Read more
