What are characteristics of cancerous lymph node? I have one behind ear for 4 months, 1 CM diameter, moves when touched, no pain. Could it be lymphoma?

Cancer's abnormal: A great many of your peers have one or more nodes like this one. Freely mobile nodes that are not outrageously large and not growing rapidly, especially in a year old, aren't going to be cancer. I'm glad you're health-conscious. The lymph nodes is your friend. ...Read more

Would a cancerous lymph node go down in size with heat and massage? Or would it just continue to grow?

Grow: A cancerous node will not go down with massage or heat, however, it may alter your perception of the size of the node. Since the node is palpable, you may wish to discuss having fine needle aspirate done by a pathologist or better yet an open biopsy, for a proper diagnosis. ...Read more

Wld a sarcoma or cancerous lymph node grow over 3 years? Had it seen then, Dr. Said nodule, not to worry. Small, firm, mobile, I feel well. Still same size

Yes...: Without treatment, cancer as you describe always grows. If a "nodule" has definitely and objectively not changed in size over 3 years, then for all practical purposes it essentially proves that the initial diagnosis by your physician was correct. I hope this helps answer your question! ...Read more

I am having pains in the lymph node that was biopsied and found to have non-hodgkin's lymphoma the aggressive fast-growing you think that is an indication that it has come back after being free from cancer for a year and?

Hard to tell: Pain is not a specific symptom of cancer recurrence. Although, you are at a definitely high risk for cancer recurrence, it doesn't mean the pain is 100% cancer related one. I would get a consult from your oncologist on that. ...Read more

What is the difference between a regular lymph node and a cancerous lymph node?

What is the difference between a regular lymph node and a cancerous lymph node?

What it contains: Lymph nodes drain a region of a body of its toxins, pathogens, & dead cells through the lymphatic system. This parallels the venous system. Once the lymphatic fluid from distant cells reaches a node, white blood cells either kill or process the contents. Cancerous nodes simply collected cancerous cells that drained from its territory. The cells then were able to multiply in that node as well. ...Read more

Over the course of 3 yrs, would a sarcoma or cancerous lymph node show signifigant, noticable growth? Possible to not notice change or wld change a lot?

Cancer tends to grow: It would be very unlikely for a cancer not to grow and spread over a period of 3 years.
If it was cancerous, the tumor/Nodes will increase in size in 3, 6 to 9 months. Biopsy is indicated if it has grown in size, otherwise it can be left alone. ...Read more

My doctors always say if the lymph node is moveable and soft and not growing it's normal. Is this true? What texture and size is a typical in lymphoma

Soft, non-fixed: Normal lymph nodes may vary somewhat, but in general normal is non-fixed (movable), soft (not firm). Size < 1-2 cm. Enlarged lymph nodes may be a non-cancer and likewise cancer can be in normal sized lymph nodes. Very large lymph nodes are more likely to be lymphoma. ...Read more

I've had a submandibular lymph node that measures 0.54x1.9x1.0 cm /cortical thickening measuring 5-6 mm for 1-1/2 years. No change in size. Lymphoma?

Possible: Rare for submandibular lymph node to remain unchanged when over 1 cm. In size. It either continues to enlarge if pathology unresolved or regresses with healing of inflammatory process. We have seen enlarged cervical node remain and at bx 2-3 yrs. Later, bx demonstrated low grade lymphoma. One might consider excisional bx, not aspiration which can be erroneous with lymphoma. ...Read more

I have 1cm lymph node behind ear. Movable painless. Been there 3 months. Don't think its grown. If it was lymphoma would it have grown by now? How big?

Biopsy.: An enlarged lymph node can be normal, or it can be a due to cancer. Lymph nodes that enlarge due to an infection (normal) are usually sore. A 1cm lymph node is just on the edge of being too big. The only way to know if it's normal is to ultrasound and/or biopsy it. Lymphomas cause rubbery lymph nodes that often grow, but not always. The lymph node behind your ear is associated with your scalp. ...Read more

POSS REACTIVE NODE: Node tender? How discovered? Did U find? Same side as ear problem? Why do U think of Lymphoma? Ear-drum likely due to inflammation in ear. XRay unlikely to help. I have an 8-9 mm lymph node in my neck, it hasn't been growing since I noticed it ~a month ago. If it doesn't get bigger should it be checked for cancer?

Watch and wait: You may feel the node every couple of weeks, if the lymph gland doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually.
