What is a normal range for TSH and T4 levels?

What is a normal range for TSH and T4 levels?

Depends: It really depends on the assay used to check the levels. Most assays have a range for example from 0.3-->3. Some have up to 5. Most often there is no need to treat unless the number is > 10 unless the patient is pregnant or symptomatic. For Free t4 you need to see the reference range as it can vary from lab to lab quite a bit depending on the assay used. ...Read more

T3 (liothyronine) uptake and T4 thyroxine and free T4 index are normal, but TSH is4.65 and per the lab that is high. The highest normal is 4.5. What does this mean?

T3 (liothyronine) uptake and T4 thyroxine and free T4 index are normal, but TSH is4.65 and per the lab that is high. The highest normal is 4.5. What does this mean?

Subclinical: Lab results are consistent with a diagnosis of subclinical hypothyroidism representing very mild and early case of hypothyroidism. I would recommend repeating your blood test first. If these results are confirmed many doctors would recommend thyroid replacement although there is some controversy about the need for treatment. If no treatment thyroid function test should be rechecked in the future. ...Read more

How high? Free T4: Total T4 depends on thyroid binding globulins and may be elevated in pregnancy, contraceptive pill intake etc. If TSH is normal and you do not have any symptoms, you can leave it alone. At your next visit with your doctor you may discuss getting free T4 and T3 (liothyronine) done for confirmation of normal status. ...Read more

Normal TSH and T4 but high T3 (liothyronine) what does it indicates?

How high?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. It would help to know the actual values of your laboratory results and the reference values (normal ranges) for the laboratory that did the tests. ...Read more

If my reports for thyroid show normal levels of TSH and normal t3 (liothyronine)..But abnormal T4 what does it show?

Thyroid issue: It's somewhat unusual to see that breakdown. Normally, we see abnormal TSH and normal t3/t4 levels. First, i would repeat the tests to make sure the new report corroborates with the old one. If the same breakdown is seen this may mean your thyroid is hyperfunctioning. In this case, i refer patients for radioactive iodine uptake study to confirm or rule this out. ...Read more

Is it possible that your TSH levels, free T3 (liothyronine) and T4 levels are within the normal range but you have a high thyroperoxidase antibody?

Depends on lab, but: Depends alot on the lab you use: most run roughly from 0.3 to about 5.0. But - this is important - most endocrinologists now consider anything above (roughly) 2.0-2.5 to be elevated, meaning an under-active thyroid. See your doctor for more specifics. ...Read more

What is the usual normal range for TSH levels?

What is the usual normal range for TSH levels?

0.5 - 5.0: In general, people with no known thyroid conditions will have TSH values between 0.5 and 5.0. Each lab determines its own normal range, and the lower limit can range from 0.2 - 0.6, and the upper limit from 2.5 to 6.0. There are some doctors who feel that the upper limit of normal is too high and that treatment should be considered for anyone with symptoms and TSH over 2.5 to 3.0. ...Read more

What does it mean when free T3 (liothyronine) is abnormally high but free T4 and TSH are in the normal range?

Consult physician: Sometimes diseased thyroid gland will start producing very high levels of t3 (liothyronine) but still produce normal levels of t4. Therefore measurement of both hormones provides an even more accurate evaluation of thyroid function. Interpretations of TSH level depends upon the level of thyroid hormone; you should consult your physician and maybe repeat tests at future time. ...Read more

On your way to hypot: The TSH is inversely related to the free T4 and free t3;the fact that your TSH is normal when your free T4 is low tells me that your pituitary gland is not responding. You will have to probably go on some supplementation. See your doctor as soon as possible. ...Read more
