Can low iron and being slightly anemic cause "whooshing" sound in ears. If so, will it go away once my iron levels are back to normal.

Can low iron and being slightly anemic cause "whooshing" sound in ears. If so, will it go away once my iron levels are back to normal.

Not so much: The whooshing sound in your ears implies pressure in the ears, infection, hypertension, or a blood vessel that may be laying across your hearing mechanism. Of course, there can be many other causes, but anemia or low iron would not be on my list of explanations for this type of symptom. If it has only been a short time, great. This could be viral. If it's been a long time, you may need a workup.. ...Read more

Since I was a kid, the water usually get inside my ears every time I went swimming which gives me discomfort, is my ear normal?

Yes: Everyone can get water in their ears while bathing or swimming. Most of the time, it drains out on its own by tilting your head & perhaps rapping your noggin once or twice. Pulling & manipulating ear while tilted may help, too. Never use Qtips as you may hurt yourself. Check out https://www.zocdoc.com/answers/9300/how-do-i-get-water-out-of-my-ear for more options. If a young child is put on medication for an ear infection, is it normal for the ear to drain mucus?

Possibly: If the ear drum has ruptured from the ear infection - which is not uncommon.. Then yes you would see drainage from the ear. If there is a rupture (typically very small - pinpoint), it will heal within a week. The medication (i presume an antibiotic) did not cause the drainage. ...Read more

My 20 month old has an ear infection and complains of head pain. I took him to Rady Children's Hospital ER today and the pediatrician did not examine his head at all after diagnosing the ear infection. So my question is, is head pain normal when there is

Head pain : Or head ache, with ear infection can be a common symptom, but it seems that you are still concerned, the doctor who examined your child was comfortable with the diagnosis and probably didn't see any other sign that would make him/her concerned about your son's condition, at any rate, it's your right to be answered for whatever concerning your child's health, you can go again or see another doctor ...Read more

Gastrin level 138, EGD showing small stomach inflammation, colonoscopy normal, . Lots of burning sensation, thirst, and ear ringing. What to testfor?

Talk to your GI: Gastrin of 138 is higher than expected normal but it's not severely high. It can be elevated due to just gastritis (inflammation of the stomach). The gastroenterologist likely tested for things while doing the EGD such as testing for h.pylori and taking biopsies. ...Read more

Tsh level normal, large lump under thyroid n swollen neck glands for 3+ months pain to ear neck n shoulder l side, hoarse diff to swallow: cancer?

Not necessarily: Something is wrong, but it doesn't mean cancer. What you describe could be an infection, a cyst, or a tumor, but it definitely needs to be diagnosed! see a doctor right away. That lump probably needs to be biopsied, and you may need a ct scan or other imaging. Don't let fear of cancer delay your diagnosis! ...Read more

Dresser tipped, hit 3yr old on head but did not land on her.Child cried right away, no bleeding or bump visible. She seems normal. Is she probably ok?

Yes: When something hits a small child on the head or when she falls on her head from a distance of less than 5 feet, cries right away, the chances of any internal brain injury are very very small, as shown by a study at the er of a boston hospital some years ago. So you can be reassured and go on loving her. ...Read more

Does sagittal craniosynostosis have to be treated? What would happen if a minor case isn't treated? Would a child's head grow mostly normally?

Does sagittal craniosynostosis have to be treated? What would happen if a minor case isn't treated? Would a child's head grow mostly normally?

Abnormal head shape: Premature fusion of the sagittal suture would stop growth from that site. Since the growing brain would need more room, it would expand the skull in the direction open to growth. This produces an oblong skull with increased front to back dimension while the side to side remained narrow. True CS needs to be fixed surgically in infancy. ...Read more
