A large sessile polyp, if it is a true polyp and not a uc pseudo polyp, can secrete mucus itself. It sounds to me that your ulcerative colitis is still not under control. Weight risks: Any steroids either parenteral or oral has its risks/side effects especially in the long run. Affects a lot of organ systems. So your md who is taking care of you will brief you more of it. And remember, your condition is an auto-immune condition.
