No immediate worry: Eating a large load of carbohyderates and sugary drinks causes the body to produce excess of Insulin which can lower the blood sugar excessively(It is called reactive Hypoglycemia). What is a normal blood sugar after a meal? #nqlu my boyfriend is a diabetic and had a 177 blood sugar level after our meal. Mine was 157. Is that normail?
The : The most important point to stress here is when the blood sugar is taken after a meal. Two hours after a meal is a true measure of how well your body is allowing the sugar you consumed to be taken up by the cells( role of insulin). If you take it around an hour after, that is merely an indication of how much sugar you ingested at the meal and does not really tell us much. Therefore the two hour is what will give you useful information. If your boyfriend has well controlled diabetes, then his blood sugar should be 140 or less after two hours. If a non-diabetic such as yourself has a blood sugar greater than or equal to about 140 after two hours then you may have an issue with processing sugar, and will need to see your doctor for diabetes testing. There is no established normal range that we use for non-diabetics at two hours, but most doctors use the 140 cutoff. Please remember the two hour blood sugar test is the most useful. Please see your doctor if you have any further questions or concerns. All the best. ...Read more
Is 124.2 mg/dl a normal blood sugar level for a 17 years old girl after a meal for after 3 hours ?
Probably normal: Hi. There aren't diagnostic criteria for normal sugar 3 hours after a mixed meal that I'm aware of, but I'd say that seems pretty much normal. Variables would be how much carb and fat were in the mixed meal; they influence how much and how quickly sugar will appear in the blood. If you're worried, talk with your doc about doing a 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
High glycemic index: Foods (sugars, rice/white bread/potatoes/pasta) can rapidly raise blood sugar & trigger large release of Insulin which overcompensates & drops the blood sugar low. Mix good fats & protein with your meals & cut back on the sugars/starches should help stabilize blood sugars. See doc to be tested for "pre-diabetes" especially if diabetes runs in your family or your are significantly overweight. ...Read more
When does a diabetic's blood sugar get low? Ever 1 hour after a meal? I haven 't been diagnosed diabetic but I've seen my BS = 65 1 hr after dinner.
Hypoglycemic: Normal blood sugar 1 to 2hours after a meal in non-diabetics is below 100mg/dl. The range is considered to be between 70 and 100. If yours falls below this you are considered to be in the hypoglycemic range but in as much as your are not on medications to lower your blood sugar or have a condition that will do this, or it continues to drop,it is not dangerous. If you have symptoms, see a doctor. ...Read more
