Maybe GERD: Agreed. Of the 70 million americans with reflux, about half have symptoms without esophageal inflammation. Some may have gagging, cough, hoarseness. Perhaps behavior ; diet modification (answered previously on healthtap) may help if gerd is present, but my best recommendation is to follow your GI doc's advice. Hello. : Hello. I don't know the reason that your friends son gags himself. It could be a conditioned behavior. If he feels comforted by his binky and is given a binky whenever he gags, he may be conditioned to repeat the behavior.
