Chronic flank pain on my left side? Usually there part of the day most days.

Could be many things: People often mistake flank pain for kidney disease, but kidney disease rarely manifests as chronic pain. Your pain could be due to benign problems with structures near the kidney such as muscle or bone. A more serious scenario would be a tumor of the kidney or of the adjacent structures such as a sarcoma. Imaging of the area with ct scan or ultrasound will be necessary to rule these out ...Read more

Hi, i have a flank pain on my lower right side can you tell me what causes that.

Hi,
i have a flank pain on my lower right side
can you tell me what causes that.

Flank pain: Studies show that the determination of the cause of flank pain depends on the acuity, severity, duration, & character of that pain, in addition to associated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or fever. Distention of the structures of the urinary system from a stone causes flank pain. However, the differential diagnosis is large and includes gastrointestinal maladies & referred chest pain. ...Read more

Having flank pain not constant and no other symptoms, could this be kidney related? I feel fine other than the occasional discomfort on right side

Yes: It is possible you have a urinary stone in your right ureter(the tube that urine from the kidney goes down to the bladder). You should have a plain Xray of the abdomen and also a renal sonogram. Another option is a CT scan of kidney with contrast. If the pain is severe go to the ER. If your doctor can see you tomorrow it would be less costly. In any case you need to get checked for possible stone. ...Read more

I have had left side severe flank pain for a month. Drs after drs & they have narrowed it down to my endometriosis. But it's never been in my flank?

Problematic: Certainly it would be important to check for kidney stones and other infections. And to check the colon for diverticulosis. But if it is endometriosis then you would need a combination likely of medical and surgical therapy. Would recommend medical treatment first to see if there is any imporovement. ...Read more

Dull achey flank pain on both sides, soreness as well.

Dull, achy pains: Given only a description of dull achey flank pains on both sides with soreness, I have to surmise that you have strained your abdominal muscles. This is usually caused by excess bending or twisting movements, and is usually much worse with bending and twisting. Motrin will help this a lot. It is unlikely to be a kidney problem because kidney problems usually happen on only one side at a time. ...Read more

I have right flank pain and imaging studies showing mild hydronephrosis on that side (no stones). What could be causing this?

I have right flank pain and imaging studies showing mild hydronephrosis on that side (no stones). What could be causing this?

Suggests blockage: Despite the lack of stones on imaging this scenario suggests a blockage of the right ureter. It is possible that a stone was passed and time is needed for local dilation to resolve. There could also be other causes like mass or stricture. If the imaging study was an ultrasound, i would talk to my doctor about further evaluation to claify the cause. Follow up studies will ensure resolution. ...Read more
