What Is Exophytic
What is exophytic renal cysts? My husband has one that is measured 8mm. Could it be a precursor to kidney cancer?
Unlikely: Exophytic renal cysts are simply cysts that extend outside the kidney capsule. You can envision a "pimple" on the surface of the kidney. Endophytic cysts are those that are buried within the kidney cortex. The 8 mm cyst is very small and difficult to characterize on noncontrast imaging. However, such a small lesion without complex features is highly unlikely to be cancerous. May deserve followup. ...Read more
Are categorized using the bosniak classification scheme. This sounds like a bosniak ii lesion: minimally complex; a few thin (< 1mm) septa, thin ca++; non-enhancing high-attenuation (due to to proteinaceous or hemorrhagic fluid) renal lesions of less than 3 cm are also included in this category; these lesions are generally well marginated.
If so, no followup is needed. ...Read more
As long: As it is a simple cyst, it shouldn't cause any problems or require any treatment. In rare cases, benign cysts grow very large and can cause symptoms simply due to their size, but that is unusual. Kidney cysts are very common. No & no: That size and location isn't worrisome. But 26 is a bit young for having these common tumors. About 50% of older women have them. They aren't curable with medication. If they get big or cause symptoms, they can be surgically removed. In some situations there are other treatment options but only after childbearing is completed. Most cause no trouble and shrink later in life on their own. ...Read more
