What is excess fat in the pancreas called?

Fatty infiltration: Fatty infiltration is just what it sounds like - excess fat within and around the pancreas. This condition is benign (not harmful, not cancerous) in the sense that it does not disrupt the normal pancreatic functions of making hormones and making digestive enzymes, plus it does not increase the risk of pancreatic cancer. If a person has fatty infiltration due to obesity, he should lose some weight. ...Read more

If you have excess fat, in your diet but not excess calories, your body would breakdown the fat to try to rebuild it as glucose to run the body. ...Read more

Does the pancreas treat olestra fatty acids similar to traditional fats/oils? Is the amount of enzymes produced the same in both cases?

Does the pancreas treat olestra fatty acids similar to traditional fats/oils? Is the amount of enzymes produced the same in both cases?

No.: Lipase is the pancreatic enzyme that splits (hydrolyzes) triglycerides in oils into fatty acids and monoglycerides. Lipase does not act on olestra, so olestra leaves the digestive tract undigested. This is why olestra has no usable calories. I do not know the answer to the question about degree of stimulation of lipase secretion by olestra vs. Other fats/oils. ...Read more

What is the name of the disorder of the liver could result in excess vitamin B12 in the body?

Cirrhosis: Cirrosis, chronic hepatitis, may cause artifically elevated B12 as the liver store vit B12 and also prodcue the proteins that bind vit B12 in the blood. If the liver is sick, it can not produce the binding proteins and when measured vit B12 appears as it is elevated, as only the un-bound form of vit B12 is measured. ...Read more
