What Is Enlarged Lymph Nodes Or Glands
Does a chest x Ray reveal enlarged lymph nodes in neck area such as under the thymus gland caused by lymphoma?
The thymus gland: is not in the neck, it is in the chest(anterior mediastinum). If the lymph nodes get large enough, the chest xray will be abnormal. However, a chest xray is not a reliable way to rule out adenopathy, because the lymph nodes have to get quite bulky to show up. CT is a much more sensitive and specific test for mediastinal adenopathy. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have mono, but my lymph nodes have been swollen for about two weeks. Should i be concerned or is it the normal duration for swollen glands?

Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph to see if anything bad is there like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They are all connected so they cannot just break off, it may have shrunk or pushed deep. ...Read more

I have had swollen glands in my neck and pelvic area since March and I’m not sure if it’s a cause for concern. The lymph nodes arent very big.
Watch and wait:
If you do not have any symptoms you may watch and wait. You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

I have two painless swollen lymph nodes on right jaw (i think submandibular gland) for quite some time. I can feel them with hands.I use snuff.
Needs eval: These need to be evaluated by your doctor or ENT specialist. You are correct to be concerned, especially since you appropriately report you use snuff which can contribute to the risk of mouth cancer even, unfortunately, at your young age. The fact that they are painless and you don't report an associated infection is also concerning. Make an appointment today. Best wishes. ...Read more

Biopsy: The only way to know for sure is to undergo a biopsy. This can be tricky for lymph nodes since the nonsurgical approach that we favor (needle biopsy) may sometimes provide insufficient tissue for definitive diagnosis, necessitating surgical excisional biopsy. Often, we can safely watch enlarged lymph nodes in the right clinical situation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
