Mild form of bipolar: Cyclothymia is a significantly milder version of bipolar disorder. It have at least a two year history w/ no more than 2 mths in a row w/out either a high or a low. Although both extremes are not as severe, they are not within normal range either and they can take a toll on overall quality of life. Significant: Cyclothymia does not require a mood stabilizer. It means that you cycle between normal (euthymia) and depressed. The mainstay of treatment in cyclothymia is an antidepressant. Bipolar 2 definitely requires a mood stabilizer to prevent mania. This is an oversimplification, since the treatment of the depression in bipolar 1-2 is not at all clear cut, and anti depressants are not always effective. ...Read more
