The systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure the blood exerts on the vessels when the heart is beating. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the vessels in between heartbeats. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, begins when the systolic blood pressure remains above 140 or when the diastolic blood pressure remains above 90. Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more
Range varies by ht: Accumulated data for hypertension is generally stratified by height not weight. A 13yo would be in the significant hypertensive range with a systolic reading of 117-126 (shorter to taller) and diastolic 75-80 (shorter to taller). Add 4 to any reading & the severity increases. It is not appropriate to consider common adult values to be normal for kids! ...Read moreSee 7 more doctor answers

Why does my vision get blurry when I take my prescribed adder all? Is it because of high blood pressure? I am a healthy 23 year old female.
Worrisome: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) can cause severe high blood pressure in susceptible people. If your vision is blurry due to high blood pressure from Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine), it's not safe for you to continue it. Please obtain a BP cuff ($50 in most pharmacies or borrow one from a friend) and check your BP when you get the blurriness. If it's >160 (top) or >100 (bottom) number, stop the Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) and check with your the prescriber. ...Read more
