28 days, +/-: 28 days from the first day of bleeding until the next first day of bleeding is the textbook answer. Periods that start spontaneously anytime from 26-32 days are normal and can mostly be considered regular. They do not vary by more than 5 days from cycle to cycle. They are however longer than is usual as I am sure you know. Could be normal: Not every menstrual cycle is exactly the same. Some have a slow start with some spotting before the bleeding comes. Birth control pill users sometimes only get spotting, no bleeding.
