What Is Clonidine Prescribed For
My son was prescribed clonidine .5mg.2day he was taken off clonidine & put on guanfacine 1mg. Can he take guanfacine 2nite after taking clonidine a.M.?
Probably: I suspect your son was on 0.05 mg of Clonidine 2x a day; that's about the same as 1 mg of guanfacine. They're in the same family of medications, working on the same system. Talk with his doctor, but switching over that dose should not cause a problem, especially since Guanfacine typically has fewer side effects. The biggest concern is a potential spike in BP from stopping Clonidine too fast. ...Read more
My b\p is 206/118 been to the doc today for same prescribed benicarhct 20mg/12.5 and was already taking clonidine 0.1...
The : The good news is that you have seen your doctor, obviously the Clonidine was not controlling your BP alone. Hopefully with the addition of benicar, (olmesartan) your BP will improve, the important point here is to mantain close follow up with your doctor until your BP is stable and under control. Limit your salt intake, eat a healthy diet, and exercise. If you develop chest pain, extreme headaches, or other symptoms please contact your doctor right away or present to your nearest urgent care or er. Take good care. ...Read more

Can the hypertensive clonidine (0.1 mg.) be prescribed on a one time basis to decrease/handle performance stress prior to a public speaking event?
Never heard that...: Choice of drug for performance anxiety. I have heard of Inderal (propranolol) for this purpose, but especially if you will do this more than once or very rarely, you might consider some psychotherapy. You can learn a strategy for managing this that can help for more than a one night stand. Talk with your doctor for ideas. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I was prescribed clonidine for my hot flashes knowing that my heart pressure is normal in general . But I do have a constant rapid heart beat.
Clarification : Are you saying you have a rapid heart beat since you started the clonidine? If this is the case, tachycardia, or fast heart rate is a side effect.. You may want to talk with doc about switching to something else? Or maybe you were saying that you have a rapid heart rate and doctor was trying to treat that? Either way, best to talk to doctor and make sure it's the right agent for you. ...Read more
Can a clonidine 0.1 mg tablet be prescribed prior to a patient's medical office visit in order to better manage his/her true white coat hypertension?
Physiology: It's normal physiology for BP to rise as part of our "fight or flight" response. This is normal, healthy, and desirable. BP medicines won't prevent it. There's no reason to take extra medicine before a doctor visit to "fool" the BP cuff. Just measure your BP at home and bring in a diary of bps. If you're concerned, bring your device in and compare results with the doctor's simultaneously. ...Read more
I'm a 29y/o woman diagnosis with ADHD and anxiety. I was prescribed 10mg of fluoxetine, 25mg of hydroxyzine and 0.2mg of clonidine at bedtime. Is that safe?
Probably safe.: The doses you have listed (10 mg of prozac, 25 mg of vistaril, (hydroxyzine) and 0.2 mg of clonidine) seem reasonable to me, especially if there was at least a few days between starting each (so that the cause of any adverse effects might be more easily known). Taking Adderall (as indicated) with these has some risks of adverse interactions, thus close monitoring for potential adverse effects is indicated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Took Clonidine for high blood pressure (185/115) as prescribed by my Dr. Blood pressure is normal now but my vision is foggy and chest pounding?
I am on clonidine 0.1 mg 2 x day. Doctor also prescribed flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) for help during a panic attack as i don't want to take addictive meds. Okay to mix?
Panic attacks: With this combo, you could feel sedated or drowsy -- and Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) doesn't help much with panic attacks either. There are non-addictive medications that do help panic attacks, such as antidepressants which can act preventively. Please consider a comprehensive evaluation with a psychiatrist, who will be well-versed in effective treatments for panic. Psychotherapy is important also! ...Read more
